Well I mentioned I went with the newer "Tactical" nylon products that are out there.

Generally backs, pouches and the like are all made with 1000 weight Cordura Nylon for durability.

Anyways since this doesn't come with Hunting camouflage patterns like Mossy Oak and the like (thank god), I decided to go with the Crye "MultiCam" pattern, its what was in the trials (sort of) with the "Universal Camouflage Pattern" that the Army is currently fielding. If you saw the movie Transformers which made made before there was a "winner" in the trials, they used MultiCam as most thought at the time thats what would have won.

Anyways it plays with the light and shading to work as well as it does.

Shocked For arid landscapes that stuff looks good-but it won't work in areas with "red"soils.

Sad Only thing that is near one or the other of the colors mentioned is the old"woodland' camo or the new"marine digital" camo.I choose the marine digital more often than the other.Mossy oak has it's places too,but it is only in limited areas, for movement and blending with backgrounds the marine digital seems best for here!I like the multicam pattern you showed for the eastern side oregon as it is more arid country, and I'd like to try it.Do you have an addy of a retailer?

D,

Just my $.02 worth on HUNTING camo.....

Way too much time is spent trying to pick a "proper" pattern, and not enough time is spent in the woods using it.

I have spent a LOT of time in the woods wearing the "wrong" pattern, and as long as you can mange to sit still, it will work.

Contrary to some popular beliefs, animals are not out there looking for people dressed up like trees. As long as the camo you choose breaks up your outline, and you can sit still, it'll work. Go back to your picture "mcvswl1", and imagine the guy in the "woodland" pattern sitting in front of the tree to his left. Game animals would never see him, IF he sat still. Now take the guy in the MultiCam and imagine him 25 feet up that tree in a treestand with nothing behind him to break up his outline. The first time he moves, he's busted (although that would apply regardless of the camo he was wearing).

Camo patterns for MILITARY use are a whole different matter. Soldiers KNOW that there may be someone in camo hiding out there, and his intent aint good......

Lots of places sell it:

Propper is a US DoD uniform supplier and they have no issue with selling to others (some contractors have been known to take a snobby attitude towards non-military once they get into the Defense contracts Sad ):

www.uspatriotstore.com...uctid=7500

I'd suggest avoiding the likes of Tru-Specs, heard too many bad things about them.

Joe,

You are very correct, camouflage is not the end all be all. Movement, scent and other things will scare a animal long before noticing something is "not right" cause your wearing a solid single color blaze orange jump suit (many hunters while moose hunting up here do this). Smile

wtf In these woods the most dangerous animals are the ones that walk upright on two feet!Oregons #1 cash crop is generally grown on public land by illegal non americans!Get the picture?Don't go in the woods if you can't blend into the background! Mad

Dimitri-moose have never been rated as the most intelligent creature, they will lay on your front porch and let you walk past,or they have been known to charge a freight train for territory,or a car or truck because someone honked at them and pissed them off-not real smart!

We haven't had that problem here for a while...

They used to sneak into the middle of huge cornfields and cut down the corn and plant their stuff. Can't be seen from the ground that way. Then the State started using helicopters to search for 'em....

Now they just set up Meth labs everywhere....

They keep growing it here, with or without police helicopters, planes and the like. From basements, to the edge of wood lots, to closed breweries, nothing is safe from them using it as a grow op anymore.

Not too worried about the illegal types while out hunting myself, more worried about getting shot cause alot of hunters I've talked to at hunting and fishing shows do not know the meaning of identifying their targets before shooting! One such story I've heard is of a someone while moose hunting in Northern Ontario shot a elk cause "it looked black, like a moose, behind the tree line so I shot at it". Mad

D,

Nothing (OK, some things) irritates me more than so-called hunters shooting at a sound or at movement.

When I was a kid, the farmer next to the property I hunted had his father-in-law killed when someone shot him in the back. The guy fired at movement, and swore it was a groundhog he was shooting at.

A few years back, we had a guy get shot in the face with a 3 1/2 turkey load, because he was walking through the woods using a gobble shaker as a locater call.

Joe,

Stupidity like that is why there are hunting accidents. People like that should be barred from ever hunting or owning guns after that.
