I have my dad's old 30-06 it was made between 71-73. it is a monky wards western field made in west germany with 7665 (i guess the model) with a mouser action if anyone can give me any information on it like who made it, It would be apriciated. it also has a weaver k3 scope mounted on it. I would like to put a 3-9 on it and am looking for suggestions

Welcome to the board. I hope you will hang out and correspond with us.

My sources indicate that your rifle may be a commercial Mauser Model 98, manufactured by Fabrique Nationale, which supplied store branded rifles to several chains. I believe (but I am not sure) that FN's model number was 200.

However, FN did not have a factory in West Germany, to the best of my knowledge (the Flemish are kinda funny about Germans, since they have been invaded by them twice in the last century). But they may have sourced barrels from Germany.

So I must ask you to go back and look carefully at the rifle and tell me if you see the marking, "Model 720 A EHM .30-06 Cal." If you do, it is not a Model 98, but rather the Mauser 3000, and the EHM model would have been EHM-770A. The Mauser 3000 was known for accuracy and its good trigger.

Here is a picture of a nice Mauser 3000. Notice the streamlined bolt shroud.

If the K3 scope is in good shape, I might be willing to buy it from you so that you can start saving for the 3x-9x. Send me a PM.

Looking at it on the barrel it says model 720 B EHM. Although the bolt is not stream line. And it has pretty close to a hair trigger
weaver K3 from my great grandpa is in great shape and still verry accurate. But I don't think i'll get rid of it any time soon.
I've tried to send you a pick of the rifle and bolt but it wont work for me
Thank you for the info

I didn't know there was a B model, and none of my books refer to it. You'd best hang onto it unmodified; it may be rare.
