Hi

I have a Browning 1885 Hi-Wall in 45-70 and I use the folowing reload .
A lyman cast bullet # 457191 approx. 300 grs. weight loaded with 22 grs.
of Bluedot powder , this is my favorite load , and it is super accurate .
I use it at 200 yrds and it will shoot within an inch. This loads velocity is 1400 feet per second , use 16 grs. of Bluedot for 1100 FPS. for a milder recoil .

Happy shooting

Was in the range yesterday.

Made up a batch of loads and I reckon I finally found the IT load.

It is 330gn flat nose gas checked lead powered by 19.5gn of 2205, flies out at about 900fps and is quite reasonable in accuracy (3.5 inches in 100 meters)
It gives me a very gentle shove and is definitely not bone shaking.

I also try some of a tad heavier loads like 530gn lead on 40gn of 2206, at 1350fps it gives me a 2inch group at 100 meters.

I could be totally hooked to shooting this calibre. It is very versatile and absolutely fun to shoot Very Happy Maybe I should buy another one for me wife...

Elvis, with sinkers that big, you might think you had a fish on the line all the time.

Come on, Elvis. You are a big guy. But maybe you should get a LimbSaver recoil pad just to be sure.

you can blame PaulS for this cause he got me started waaaaaay back with talk of a redneck .410 adapter
I built one and used it (still in the drawer)
then came a proper machined one purchased but at 2 3/4" long velocity sucked
then got a slightly longer one turned up...3 1/2" not much betterer and finish internally was shite so cases stuck
fast forward to recently when got my buddy to turn up a decent one 12" long...yip that puppy works a treat 1 shot fired and 1 dead rabbit 15 yards away, tried it with a .45 long colt and it went bang ,the pill flew out the end and hit what was aimed at..good enough for bailed pig etc
THEN I saw a thread on forum with clever chap making a barrel...
this is another of his barrel builds with more techno stuff for you likeminded chaps and chapessess

looked at data....there is 385grn and 405 grn loads wrote down start loads ,so doing the line thingy it gives me the inbetween load data which for AR2208 works out at 1.25grns per 10 grns projectile loaded up 3 ar 41.3 grns 2208 behind the 395grn hollow base. will see how far into last week the push me when we finish project and actually get to touch one off.

SJ, Elvis is still not thinking as a 45 Government user... he's still in the need for speed... maybe someone will trow a stone to his head so he understands the difference between heavy at low speed and a needle at high velocity...
