Does anyone know of a site that shows how to skin a coyote properly? One sort of like Dallan's field dressing instructions would be good. Thx.

One thing you should do first though before starting the skinning. Put the coyote in a plastic garbage bag and spray some Raid into it and seal it up for an hour or so to kill all the flees or lice. Otherwise they'll be crawling on your arms etc.

Sniper, years ago I made my own stretching boards from info from my Dad and the way he did it years before me. I made mine out of 1 x 4's about 6 feet long, and they were adjustable. What I did was taper the ends (shaped similar to the ones in the link above except split in the middle) for the head and toe nail it together. At the other end I fastened a piece of 1x4 at one end across it, leaving one end loose. After you slide the skin over the boards you pull the bottom end apart and tack it to stay, there by stretching the skin. This way you don't need different sized boards for diff sized coyotes and the hides are easier to take off of the board because you release the bottom end. It worked for me and I always got a good dollar for my hides. I quit skinning and stretching hides 20 - 25 years ago.

Thanks! I wondered about that. D'you suppose that flea powder in the bag would work as well? Does rigor set in, and make skinning more difficult?

Neat idea about the adjustable stretchers. With the price of lumber, nowadays, wire ones might be cost effective. Like my youngest daughter used to say, now all we got to do is "catch" one!

Rigor doesn't set in too bad if you put them in a bag with Raid or whatever right after you shoot them and skin them shortly thereafter. Plus they may not freeze on you as quick as they will here at times. I've had to thaw them out before skinning many times. Sure glad I don't skin them anymore ................
