I am curious if anyone has any experience using A Frames on moose, bear, elk, or other big game, that they would be willing to share. I have been told that they can penetrate to well, an concept I am not sure I get.
I was thinking of using them ( in 145 grain) in my 270 for moose, in the event I had any problems with my 35 Whelen. They shoot a good group, and the chronograph tells me I am getting good velocity for the weight.

Cannot believe no one replied to your question. I have never used A-Frames, one of my friends has on 300 lb. deer and on 600 lb. elk they retained most of their weight and penetrated deeply or exited.

If your rifle likes them and they are within your budget then use them. They will do all that you ask, even on quartering shots into bone.

I have not personally used the Swift bullets, but I have visited first hand with someone that knows the owner of the company. They are made in Quinter, KS, about 90 miles straight west of here on I-70.

Used to shoot in a sporting clays league with this guy, and he had been to Africa twice using the bullets. He and the owner of Swift were good friends, and they went over specifically to test performance on buffalo and I believe, lion. Can't remember if they got a lion, but he indicated that he shot a Cape Buffalo with a 416 Rem. Mag. with an A-Frame, and it put it down.

I think you can think of them as Nosler Partitions on steriods. Righ now, for me and the shooting I do, Nosler Partitions work just fine due to the cost differential. However, if I ever make it to the Dark Continent and am hunting something with sharp fangs, claws, or nasty horns, I will have A-Frames in my .416 Weatherby!

A Frames in Africa are the cats meow these days .. Never used them in anything smaller than 375 tho' ..
They're great bullets , but as tbox said partitions are hard to beat ..
