Crows are very hard to take. Don't know what the crows are like over there, but ours are very smart. point at them with your hand or a stick and they ignore you.....point a rifle and they are off like a brides nightie.

They are a much prized target by some.

Well done on the shot.

Cheers, Vince

I can assure you, the Danish Crow are shy to. . By the way, do you have the same kind of Crow as the one on the photo (Hooded Crow)?

No ours are different. Have a look at this site:

Australian Raven

They are a real pain in the butt.

I guess that is why your crow looks a bit grey, he is a different species. Our crows are jet black and look large, untill you pick one up. They are about 75% feathers. Our crows are very crafty, you can walk or ride by, have a stick, shovel or fishing pole, nothing. Walk out with a gun at 300 yards, they are off like a... err ....what was that Vince?

We hunt them with shotgun (decoys, calls and cammo) or rifles and a good distance. 99% of the time you see a rifle shot on the ground, but the sneaky bugger is walking constantly with little one second stops to snatch a bug or pull up seed in a newly seeded field. You squeeze the trigger just as he stops and hope he is still there when the bullet arrives. Oh, the sentinal crow you see here, in a tree, is normally about 500 yards plus out and moving with the breeze. If you hit him, we take you to hospital to have horseshoe removed from your backside.

Around here they are said to live to about 80 years and a full grown crow is a wise old bird.

Maybe they are quick, but they can’t run away for a .220 Swift! Very Happy

This Crow didn’t get the head down before the bullet hit him.

Hey Mauser,
A nice rifle caught my eye on the scroll, so I clicked on it and up came the 243 Walnut stocked gun you built. I then looked at your photos, very nice rifles, very good execution.

I wish we were closer, I would trade you some of my Walnut, Maple or Myrtle for some of your Danish wood, very lovely grain. I thought it was a light colored Misquite at first. Are the trees large?

Hey SwampFox!

I’ve looked in you gallery, and I can se that you have the same strange inclinations, regarding “Stock making” as I (excellent work).

It’s a good occupation fore a long cold winter.

It was by a chance I got the idea using laburnum wood for Stock making. I was cutting down some trees in an old garden. In the end of this garden there was a huge Laburnum. Ordinary Laburnum is smaller, but this fellow has four heavy trunks, each at twenty inch. When I was cutting the tree down, I noticed the extraordinary beautiful grain, so I saved two logs. I make fireplace wood of the rest of the tree (as the fool I was) Embarassed

The two logs have been to six riflestocks as far, and I have still two pieces (blanks) back of the old tree.

Oh, my. (weeping) burned in the fireplace.... Sad

A friend was telling me about this wild plumb tree he had come across while clearing land. THe trunk was 18 inches. He told me I could have the wood. Plumb is a beautiful wood, so I ask, where is it. Over there, and pointed to a pile of split firewood logs.....

Maybe you can use it on a small stock! Smile

Anyway, another sad story! Whip

Yes, like knife handles or hand grips for derrigers. HaHa that is just so wrong. I had the same thing happen to me with some curly willow. It just doesn't seem fair. Ya gotta laugh or you will spend the day crying.

Quote::
"The Birds"

Properly refered to as Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" staring the beautiful Tippie Hedren. Laughing

Yep, I went to see that one the first week it was released. Very Happy I still don't like it when a crow looks at me.

Then they created a hunting season for them because they are the state bird of Mexico. My personal season is every day for the critters that carry West Nile. Shocked Confused Very Happy

There is an obviouse difference in crows and ravens that I have seen in the east and western us. Crows are mostly feathers were ravens are larger and smarter.
