Yesterday, Saturday, 5/30/2020, an American crew was launched by an American company made rocket, from American soil to the International Space Station for the first time ever. It is also the first time in nine years that American astronauts were sent to space from American soil. Was this thanks to Boeing? No, it was a company that launched its first rocket, a totally American made rocket, just over ten years ago. Spacex took two astronauts from the ground to orbit in 12 minutes and then delivered those two men to the space station 19 hours later.

I admit that I am a space junky but I haven't felt like this since the first American was sent to space in 1961. Now, this isn't a great feat of spaceflight but it is the first step in a march to go back to the moon and on to mars and beyond. NASA said they will go to the moon in four years. Spacex says they will do it in two years. Neither will land on the moon with their first flight but it is another step toward extra-planetary habitation. The march is on, once again. I hope that it continues this time.

I'm with you Paul. I'm excited that the US has taken this step.

It's way past time western nations ceased relying on "cheap" alternatives to domestic endeavour, as in the long run, it isn't cheap at all, with lost jobs, expertise & technological advancement costing us dear.

You miss the point Mike.
It has nothing to do with local jobs, it has EVERYTHING to do with whatever companies CEO yearly bonus.

Paul,
I agree, it is good to see the USA back in the space launch business.

I heard that the launch was the most watch show of all the networks and all the internet too.

I think there might be a little interest in this space thing. Maybe it's not just a passing fad. Wink

Oh but the Space Force! don't forget that lil gem. Obama has already made a situation comedy on Netflix about it. But I bet the emphasis in space may become more of a defensive endeavor. Jest have to kick out the Ruskies and cabbage (and they use mayonnaise on everything too) We'll have some purified urine and homegrown potatoes please. Hold the mayo.
