As we move into the hunting seasons, the activity at our gun club ranges seems to be picking up. The Darwin candidates never fail to disappoint and continue to show up in growing numbers. Fortunately, the current crop of folks seeking recognition are usually more embarrassed than dangerous to themselves or others. I will only point out a few examples so you good folks get the idea of what we are dealing with.

Darwin candidate #1 was having trouble hitting a large target at 100 yards using his .30-06 bolt action rifle and shooting from a sandbag rest and requested a bit of help. He was not getting a group on his target and never would because he was feeding .270 Winchester cartridges through hid rifle. I have heard that a .270 Winchester cartridge will not chamber and fire in a .30-06 rifle. Well Darwin candidate #1 blew that theory out of the water.

Darwin candidate #2 brought his father age 80 and his teenage son to the range for a bit of practice and sighing in their deer rifles. Granddad did just fine with his .35 Remington lever action. Teenage son mostly stood behind the line and remained mute. Dad made the motions to commence his sighting in activities, but abruptly stopped and asked for my help. We learned that it is not possible to chamber a .243 Winchester cartridge in a .270 Winchester rifle. Seems Dad bought the wrong ammo. A cleaning rod easily dislodged the alien round from his rifle. All the best...
Gil

Yep...and usually far to successfully!

Darwin didn't go far enough! How about Degeneration Of Species?
