While working at the local gun club, I get to see a vast number of firearms. This week, a fellow brought an 1873 Winchester lever action and was having trouble hitting a large target at 50 yards. It was a .45/75 and the barrel had been crudely cut and there was no crown. We walked to 25 yards and shot at the target and all shots missed the paper. Moving to 15 yards showed that all bullets keyholed all over the target. It appears that the barrel was well worn and needed to be crowned. He put the rifle away and left the range.
I have never seen a .45/75 caliber rifle and wondered what history it might hold. All the best...
