Thank you for the comments.

Right now I use Hodgon .375 cal round balls that come with the gun when I bought it, but soon I will cast my own.

I am using FFF black powder, I think it is Goex. Upon advice from a former record holder of BP shooting David Moore en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._shooter), I am loading the gun with 14 grains and topped up with another 13.5 grains of corn meal to fill the chamber.
David walk me through the safety and the mechanics of the BP pistol last weekend.
Too bad I am too dense to learn properly.

And I do use lanolin mixed with beeswax and olive oil for the chamber seal.
On this topic I was told by a few BP shooters to use margarine or butter because they will smell much better when shot Very Happy

Gelan, what diameter bullet are you using?

Dallan, I found your experience with 777 interesting. When a friend and I tried it in our T/C Encore .50s we both got good results. He used two 50 grain pellets and I used about 110 grains of loose powder, both with Powerbelt bullets. We both got 3 shot groups around 1.5" at 100 yards.

I couldnt break 8" at 100 yards. It was ALL over the target. I went back to pyro as a control and had a nice tight cloverleaf. To each is own I guess. My brother loves 777 Pellets, but he says loose 777 is terrible. Wierd.

when you think "rifle" you should also think "conical"... so fast twist! And when you get the opportunity for a Whitwort, don't hesitate! My Parker Hale Volunteer is still the best grouping BP-rifle I own, I only don't shoot it very often because a Hawken is so much easier to clean.

And Geland, don't forget you're starting with a revolver, IMHO the most difficult BP-thing! A frontloading single shot rifle or pistol is much easier to shoot AND to clean (and often with better results).

@SJ: when you cannot buy BP, you might make your own? Look at the "urine-advice" in the link Elvis gave here somewhere... or visit Czech Republic some day for cheap BP (but transport might be a problem)

I think I will find other activities to consume my time when I retire. The Feds have burdened BP with so much paperwork, retailers just don't bother with it. Its classified as an explosive (smokeless powder is flammable) so every pound of it must be logged, stored, and sale documented. The synthetics BP are classified like smokeless powders and just sit on the shelf.

Hornady .429" 240gr XTP in a Hornady Green .44cal sabot. This is out of the older style Remington M700ML rifle (Remington admitted they designed the gun around that bullet, sabot and 100grains pyrodex). It shoots awesome with that load.

On a sidenote, Hornady doesnt seem to sell those green sabots in loose packs anymore, they sell them bundled with a XTP bullet, for 4x the price. I found a outlet that had packages of the loose sabots for $5 a bag and bought all of them. I've shot 200+ rounds through the ML's in the past 2 years.

Huh, they didnt have those the other day when I looked... it said "Discontinued". Perhaps I hit a dead link or something.

Amusingly, the store I ordered from goofed up on their end and resent my order... which means I got 8 more packages of sabots today. Thats 16 packages now LOL! I need to contact them and see how they screwed up.
