I myself use Hoppes No.9 as well. For 3 simple reasons:

1) It's not a abrasive like some Mad
2) It's worked well so why change ??
3) Its readily avalible Very Happy

My cleaning method for barrels is:

1) One patch with alot of Hoppes,
2) 10 COPPER Brush Strokes, (Stainless steel and nylon are a no-no)
3) One dry patch to pick up the gunk.

I clean them offen enough that normally this makes the bore look nice and clean Cool

For anyone else, but 10ring, I would say that I approve. But for 10ring it would be a waste to use Hoppe's a a cologne. What a waste!!

I'll stick to my Old Spice myself 10Ring Very Happy

Anyways I find that the patches dont do too much compared to using a good cleaning rod with a copper brush on the tip Smile Anyone feel the same way ?? Confused

Well....Usually now, older men wear Old Spice (like 30's and up) i've never found a teenager that wore it. That is, until now Shocked

My wife says she'd kill me if i wore it because her dad wore it and it would just be the obvious Laughing

Hoppes on the other hand Very Happy

I don't use old spice but I do use hoppes #9 on my rifles and for gun oil I use EEZOX. It is a synthetic gun oil amd works from 450 degrees F to 95 degrees below F. I have used it for years with absolutey no frozen bolts etc. It cleans and lubes, prevents rust & finger printing, and there is no oily film, dry to touch. It's Good Stuff ................ !! Smile

Anyone try Hoppe's Elite copper solvent....??

I did just for gits and shiggles.....let's say I'm tickled with it and I don't impress easily...........

No soaking or excessive brushing, simply simple......

I wet a bore mop with it and stroke the bore about 10 times, the Elite will foam blue then go white......

I then wet a bronze brush with it and stroke the bore about 7 or 8 times....

I then push one patch wet with it all the way thru the bore.....

I then wet/dry patch the bore with two or three tight patches using carburator cleaner....

One final dry patch before bore oiling......

Whole process takes about 5 minutes or less and the bore has Zero copper/fouling content.......

Hm, seems I am going to have to have a look at both the Hoppes Elite and th EEZOX, they both sound good.

At the moment I am using SWEETS Bore Solvent for cleaning the bore and Nycolube 127 for bore protection as a lubricant for moving parts. I am also using a Silicone Cloth to wipe down all exposed metal parts and for storage I am using a liberal coating of Lanoguard 3000.

This works for me but I like the concept of the EEZOX, especially the "dry to the touch" idea and single application.

Cheers, Vince

Looks like I'll have to buy stock in Hoppes & who ever makes EEZOX. This site is growing & if everyone tries Hoppes Elite & EEZOX, I'll be rich. I'm going to give it a try myself.
Keep it coming...
