Dimitri...If I could afford to do an Africian hunt it would at the TOP of my list. As Sniper stated. If you have ever read some of the books on Africian safaris and hunts you wounldn't ask that question.

Well then Sniper,
I've got to admit I never read any of thouse books, more into Tom Clancy type books
I understand the reasoning behind going to Africa, I mainly made this post because it seems the rest of the world is always over looked so I was wondering why Africa first and not give a 2nd thought to many other interesting "less popular" places.

Pop,
Never been much interesting in Pilgramiges maybe I should start.
Bushmaster,
Might need to check out the local bookstores etc for a copy of some of thouse books, however the movie Ghost and the Darkness makes going to Africa for some hunting something I'd like to do if I ever get rich enough to do it before I marry, after that my pocket wont get anywhere near big enough for a big trip
But I still think that a trip to ANYWHERE in the world would be good for me, I'm not too picky, anywhere the pocket can take the hit to go to and it being enjoyable

AFRICA...Man's roots. Maybe we just want to return to our origins...Where it all started millions of years ago.

Yeah, now you're talking SERIOUS entertainment. The wife even liked it, and she bought me the DVD.
But, I still think that a trip to ANYWHERE in the world would be good for me, I'm not too picky, anywhere the pocket can take the hit to go to and it being enjoyable :lol:Dimitri |
Too right, if you go with the proper attitude.
Clancy's one of my favorites, too. Can you tell me which book it was where John Clark got his Presidential Pardon? I have been looking, but can't find it.
Have you read any of the Patrick O'brian series--the ones the movie Master and Commander were based upon? Good Stuff. There are at least 17 books, and I have read them all at least twice. Clancy's , too.
If you want GOOD fantasy and adventure, try Heinlein's Glory Road.

Sniper,
Even if I didnt get to kill anything a hunt anywhere else in the world would be good Africa has a small special place but I dont know if they let you hunt lion like they did in the movie
Any hunt should be enjoyable at the place you live, or thousands of miles away, even if you spent 5,000$ or more and didnt kill anything during the hunt Well atleast for me it would still be enjoyable
As for the books I'm gonna make a post in the Spam section

Pop,
Sounds good, give me a while of years to pay my student loans and save up Maybe we can find a place that serves a half decent Metaxxa or Chiporo down there (yes I realize its more dreaming then it being possible but one can hope for a good drink after a successful hunt )
I wonder if its legal to hunt lion in Africa.

Dimitri: I wasn't trying to bust your chops, it's just that I can't explain my wish to hunt Africa very well. Maybe it's part what Bushy said, genetic or tribal memory, but maybe it is also more fundamental than that.
Years ago, I read a piece in one of the hunting magazines, and the author had been on a safari for, among others, cape bufffalo. Nevermind that a feral Brahma bull is bigger, meaner, and harder to find, The Cape Buffalo is the ultimate bad guy, to me.
Anyhow, this guy got his buff at shoestring range, and he remarked that the main thing in life is to Act Properly. I got the impression he was pretty well pleased with his conduct that day.
It has always been the big question to me, If I would "Act Properly" in a situation like that. I'll probably never know, but I think maybe...I just might.
Who'd know? Just some Professional Hunter you'll never see again in this life...but YOU would.
Some might say that getting education, earning a living, raising kids, driving the freeway, etc. is a challenge to surpass all others...but are they, really?
Boy, I get windy! See ya in spamland.
