For you deer salt block licks user. I found a recipe to make you own deer salt lick blocks.

Ingredients:
(3) 26 oz of salt (any kind)
(1) 24 oz of syrup
(1) Junk plastic container
Corn( optional)
Scissors

Steps:
1. Pour the (3) 26 oz of salt in container
2. Pour the whole bottle of syrup into into the container with the salt
3. Add corn to the mixture(optional)
4. Flatten the salt out as best as you can by tapping the bottom on the ground
5. Put some where where it wont get disturbed
6. Leave for a week or till it is all hardened
7. When it is hard cut the salt block out

I haven't tried it so I have no experience with it. Some people use molasses instead of syrup.

May have to try that recipe,,, I've always put my salt blocks on a stump , the deer will eat the stump after the block is gone, salt leaches into the stump.

In VT where salting is illegal, outlaws would tie a burlap sack of rock salt in the crotch of a tree. When it rains, the salt runs down the trunk. Never tried it, but I am told it works well.
