sounds like a good challenge then, they probably will sit there wondering what the puffs of dirt are all around them for long enough for you to get it right, at that range they shouldnt hear a thing.

went out and checked sheep today, bro in law and son had our 2 Baikals and I took my pump just incase we got attacked by cannibal pigmys. the cocker was having a ball poking around in the wind rows of pines looking for bunnies. I shot one at 35ish yards and we kept poking around, the lad missed one darting between rows. dog got really interested at one place and poked bunny out on lads side of row, he fired but it darted back in. I stood on other side of the row and dog was under trees snuffling around to find it, a couple of yips told us he was on, bunny shot out my side then straight back in...I cursed myself not being ready...dog kept pushing and bunny finnaly had enough and tore out my side trying to get across to other row I up and bang...over it rolled 10 yards max full tilt and it was a good central shot. no lungs liver heart or pretty much anything left in the middle...the wad was even inside it!!!!!
got another hare on the run later on. lad chopped them up when we got home and cooked himself up a feast in my old camp oven.
oh yeah nearly forgot..dog was pushing around gave a yip so we on red alert when up comes a mallard hen from inside the row. thought it was a cock pheasant with the noise she made. got the dog out of there and hope she goes back to her nest.

Great stuff mate...sorry I missed your call...was on the throne at the time. Tried calling back, but all I got was your message bank.

If you are using steel, it would be easy to get the shot out with a magnet mate. Laughing Laughing Laughing

My favorite thread! Good job El V!!!

Shoots will be green and the meat will be nice....Jack-strap Fajitas anyone??? Toss in some straps, onions, green and red peppers, season to taste and toss in double-corn tortilla. Try and only eat one, bet ya cant!!!! Very Happy

shot another 2 tonight with .22
took 9 shots but never mind, trying to hit just the head showing in the long grass at 50+yards from standing is not easy, did manage a spur winged plover too.....squaking plurry Aussie over stayer!!! Very Happy
most of the bunnies are only kittens...3-4" long so they arent exactly large targets!!!!

Good work mate. Rabbit kittens are very hard to hunt because of their size...but the meat is sweeeet.

Plover...shoot them all...mongrel things they are. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

If they are only 3-4" long, how tall are they to only see their heads in tall grass, or did you just forget to cut your grass for a couple of days?

Wouldn't it have been better to let them grow a bit more (like Ham & Bacon) so there was something big enough to eat and you wouldn't have to waste so much ammo trying to hit them?

they are out amongst the sheep and no we dont mow the grass. 6 bunnies eat the same as a sheep..so we got to keep numbers down or will have to get rid of some sheep. as for the grass being tall well its about 6-8" high so the shape of the bunnies sitting up the head is all we see. the little fellas are just a blur. the 2 I got were half grown maybe 10" long and yip Vince the chunks we battered and fried up were sweet and tender.

got three more last evening. the largest took me 5 shots to connect twice with it. when I walked down with dog to get it I was suprised how far it was. 156 paces back to shooting spot. it only ran 25 yards tops so the last connecting shot was at over 100!!!!
