Make sure to watch both clips!!!!

Latest super rifles. You pull the trigger, and the following occurs: First, the rifle adjusts for wind, distance, etc., and then the rifle decides when to fire. Accurate at over 1,000 yards!

General Info re the Rifle

Firstly, I strongly disagree at their choice of targets ... totally not necessary!

Field testing in South Africa

Pretty impressive display of technology but not my cup of tea for hunting. It seemed to me that most of the shots taken in South Africa were too far back. I'm assuming that the system centers the whole target?

That is not to be confused with hunting. Hunting is when you pit your skills against the animals skills. You know...Like sneaking up on them... Mad

That's why I much prefer my .30 WCF Mod 94 over my Browning .30-06 with scope.

Not my cup of tea for hunting, while the technology is great, it takes all the skill out of it for the hunter. I imagine the ammo is high in price since it's tied into the scope it self and will probably leave out reloaders for awhile as well as the price of the "trackpoint" itself.

The bullets are what you and I can reload. They are just high BC hunting bullets that can carry their energy to great distance. The technology is similar to what was demonstrated in air-to-air gunnery back in the 1980's. You designate the target and let the computer only shot the bullet(s) when the aiming solution is in-line with the desired POI. With the fighters, the radar had to be tracking the target and determining center of mass. The pilot just held down the trigger (consent) and the computer let the bullets fire only when the calculated trajectory was on target - no wasted bullets. If off target, the computer inhibited firing. In this system, the operator (just couldn't call him a marksman) has to designate the desired point of impact (the red dot). If its not where it needs to be, then designate again. Then the operator holds down the trigger (concent). Next time the barrel position places the calculated trajectory on target, the computer fires the round. You could be wobbling all over the place, but if the barrel momentarily aligns with the desired trajectory, the bullet is sent down range. The miniturized, sophistacated, laser-based, computer tracking system that sits on-top of the rifle is what makes it happen. the bullets and rifle are just precision tools like we use (Bushy's lever action not included).

the south african clip was...well not hunting or my cuppa tea..well.... I spouse its hunting but not shooting as we have come to know it,more like using a heat seeking missile really. I have seen some footage of truely long rang sniping of game taken here in N.Z. and you have to take your hats off to these guys as they know their stuff. the ethics are debatable as always with an increased chance of wounding and decreased chance of follow up shots although having said that...the animals are so far away the sound of the shot hardley seems to bother them.
I can legally shoot a canadian goose with my .270 at 300 yards but wont do it, using the shotgun at 40 is much more my thing
all a matter of what squeals ya wheels I suppose.

Pretty impressive, but took a lot of fun out of hunting..
I am pro technology but this is not what I like.

IMHO it is awesome piece of military gear, not a recreational hunting gear.

It will be a long time before this becomes "recreational". I think it costs as much as a BMW!

Yep, but they don't come with guns - the women or the car.
