Got my first turkey ever a couple of weeks ago. It was called in by my buddy. Hunt was on federal land close to my home. Got to say it was pretty exciting. 20 pound merriam. Of course it was taken with my trusty Beretta 20 ga. with Winchester Super pheasant three inch #5's at 25 yards. Can't wait to do it again. Smile

Vince,
I heard you had lots of turkeys down under - OK, they don't have feathers and they wear suits and work in parlimentary buildings but they are definately turkeys.

Good job mate!
I guess the only chance I have for a turkey would be in the supermarket frozen food aisle.

maybe you are confused... but some people do aim before pulling the trigger...
and others have this disease, sometimes called "maximitis"...

the first ones travel light but do big things, the others all complain about their backs and always want more lead and do funny things to avoid kicking...

here in Kiwiland the most common way of harvesting a gobbler for the pot is to creep up to their roosting spot (often a farm gate) in the wee small hours and grab one or two while they are sound asleep!!!!
not really sporting but a heck of alot of fun none the less!!!!

M2, congrats! I saw your post and said to myself "I bet there is a good picture in there". I was not disappointed. Your posts are always worth a thousand words or more.

Thanks guys. Yes, my buddy was pretty put out that I wasn't in full camo and packin a 12 ga. also. Smile Fact is, I really don't have much in the way of camo. A little duck camo stuff is about it. If needed I may buy some camo when is goes on sale, just to be fashionable. Smile Perhaps this old turkey didn't have any respect for the old 20 ga. Smile

Maybe when you're in full camo the turkey knows you're a hunter...
