I was looking in the local classifieds and a fella has a Rem Viper .22 for sale for $100 dollers and since I am such a rimfire nut these days i thought it might be a great investment. He says it is in excellent shape however I am not familiar with this model. It was only made for like 6 years and is a semiauto. I have been getting mixed reviews on the quality of this gun. Does anyone have any input?

I heard these rifles had issues, also. Only 6 years in production kinda confirms that. Some were shooters most were not. Replacement clips are expensive. I'd try before you buy. Note, the Marlin semi-auto has been in production for over 60 years.

I HAVE A REMINGTON 522 AND I DON'T THINK THERE WORTH MUCH. THEY ONLY MADE THEM FOR 4-6 YEARS. THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE BARREL RUSTING, THE GUN JAMMING, AND THE CLIP GETTING STICKY BECAUSE IT IS MADE OF PLASTIC.

I decided not to get it. It looks good but I am not interested in a lemon. Thanks for the input. I am thinking since I have my 2 semiauto 22's I may just look into getting a bolt or pump. I am also thinking of investing in a 22mag.

I don't know if you have a 17HMR but if you're a fan of rimfire you'd probably love it. Very accurate fun and I'm not a 22 fan but when I shot this Savage 17HMR I was thrilled with the accuracy and down range ability. If you don't have one, you must try it. I was also thinking of buying a 22mag until I found this rifle, although 22mag would be cool too, I'm stickin with the 17. I can shoot the clays then shoot the chips of the clays with my scope attached and it's a blast. I never had a 22 that can shoot so accurately.

Consider a lever action Marlin - I love mine. My Remington pump was nice but I had feeding issues with it.

I cant fault my norinco bolt .22 cheap and accurate. maybe a wee tad too long in the barrel but great all the same.

Too bad the Viper wasnt immortal like my old clip fed Nylon 77. Hurts me to think how many bricks have passd down that bore andI just recently took me an unsuspecting Kyodeler with it when he saw me and tried to vacate in one helluva hurry. Second one for that ol .22, I think I will keep it awhile longer. Very Happy

I have a 17HMR and I agree it is a blast. I do a lot of hunting with my .22 though and I still would like to have a .22 Mag. I am able to stay out on the range and pepper away with my rim fires alot longer that my centerfires and I am a lot more accurate with them too. Anyway I am still looking at getting another of each. I had a norinco semiauto which was my first rimfire, I would like to get another one if possible as it was damn accurate and fun to shoot.

Ruger 10/22s can become nice projects. I took my old beater with a worn out barrel (thanks gelandangan for helping me find that out) and added new barrel, stock, trigger. Presto! A great new rimfire!

Hard to beat the 10/22. Best part is the after-market accessories, barrels and stocks so you can modify it to your heart's content. Quite a few accuracy modifications that are worthwhile too, such as bedding, trigger work, a seating modification (using two set-screws on the lug) and etc. Solid foundation to do most anything.

I have a Baikal combo in 22mag and 20 guage. I really wanted a Savage model 24 but alas couldn't find one. Now that Savage have introduced the model 42 I wish I had waited. The Baikal is a rock solid combo and comes with 3 choke tubes but the new Savage looks cooler. Opinions must differ as I can't find one for sale anywhere, new or used.

I have a 10/22 that I am thinking of stocking along with some other mods and I have a 22 charger that I am looking into stock options and suppression. I am looking at a dragonov stock for the carbine and a new barrel as well as trigger job. My thought on the trigger though is that I do not see a problem with a factory trigger assembly but then I have never shot one with an after market trigger. My brothers father in law has a decked out 10/22 he wants 250 for that I might pick up after the first of the year. Maybe I will see a difference in it.
