I just came across a mint 69A from an estate. These are my favorite .22 rifle. Sure wish I had bought several some years ago when they were available and less costly. Anyone else like this rifle? All the best...

Howdy Gil. I don't know much about the win 69A. I have a old OF Mossberg and sons 22 model 340 BA with a monte carlo stock with finger grooves. My dad re blued and refinished the stock quite a few years back when i was in the army and it still looks great Smile and its a shooter!!

shrpshtrjoe,
The unique thing about the Model 69 and 69A is they are just very well made and not very expensive rifles. They were so good that Winchester quit making them. I have one that I rescued from a gun shop years ago and really like it. The early ones did not have a grooved receiver for scope mounts. So a side mounting place was attached to the left side of the receiver. All the best...

Howdy Gil. Your comment about being so good they quit making them made me think of the rem 788 i think rem did the same thing. It was a plain jane inexpenisve gun that shoots very well. I sold one couple years back and still kickin myself Sad

Regarding the Model 788, they do turn up in the local shops around here from time to time. What caliber is your preference? I used to work in a gun shop part-time and saw lots of stuff come in and go out. I recall seeing a 788 in .44 Magnum and should have bought it. All the best...

Howdy Gil. The one i am looking for is the 308 with the short carbine barrel (18") that is what i had and with the short barrel with 46.5 grains of imr 4320 and the 150gr partition i was getin 2820fps average. That thing would shoot 15 shots under a inch at 100yds. I don't recall if they chambered them in 25-06 or not but i would probably be interested in one of those as well . I think they came in 7 diferent calibers. There shooters thats for sure. Thanx Gil.

Gil,

I have an old 69A, (match ?) target rifle with a peep-sight attached on the left-rear of the (non-grooved) receiver. The triggers on these guns usually are not real good, but I think someone has worked on mine, as it's about 2#. It has served me well as a close-up ground-hog gun and an all around tree-rat killer. It will never be traded or sold Laughing .

Kodiak,
I will pick up the 69A tomorrow and it has a peep sight as you described. Some years ago, I picked up a used one and someone had drilled and tapped it it for a side mounting plate for a scope.. These rifles are just wonderful and I will snatch up every one I come across in decent shape for a fair price. you just do not see them very often. All the best...
