I also, wouldn't use a flat-based bullet like the Nosler Partition if you want a flat trajectory.

I'd have to disagree with this. Many of the Nosler partitions have quite high ballistic coefficients even with a flat base.

Examples
.308 150g Hornady SST .415 BC
.308 150g Nosler Partition .387 BC
.308 150g Barnes TSX BT .369 BC
.308 150g Barnes TTSX BT .420 BC
.308 165g Nosler Partition .410 BC
.308 165g Barnes TSX BT .398 BC
.308 168g Barnes TSX BT .404 BC
.308 168g Barnes TTSX BT .470 BC
.308 180g Nosler Partition .474 BC

The 165g Nosler partition is equivalent to the 150g Hornady SST and beats the 150g, 165g, & 168g Barnes boat-tailed TSX. It is also the near-equivalent of the boat-tailed plastic tipped 150g TTSX. The 180g Partition beats them all. The B.C.'s only get better if you move to the Nosler Accubond which is a bonded-bullet designed to mimic the terminal properties of the Partition.

Besides, depending on the typical ranges you hunt it may be a non-issue. B.C. doesn't really come into play for hunting till you stretch past 250 yards.

Azar, thanks for pointing out the Nosler Partition's BC values. Those are impressive BCs for a flat based bullet. If one of my goals was a flat trajectory and down-range energy, I also be interested in these bullets.

.308" 180 gr Barnes Tipped TSX BT .484
.308" 200 gr Barnes Tipped TSX BT .546
.308" 180 gr Nosler Accubond .507
.308" 200 gr Nosler Accubond .588

I made the "salt water" using table salt and tap water. You can use regular tap water in it too but I think the salt water gave me better results.

Jugs have too thick a skin and that allows the bullet to go off in wierd directions.

My Box frame was eight feet long and I had no problem capturing expanded bullets but I was not using ammo under 6mm.

I still have the plans I used. I have had to replace parts from time to time. They break when hydraulic loads get too high. I have cut relief holes in the sides and bottom to help but never documented them. I can't post the PDF version or the JPGs without hosting them somewhere first. I really would rather not do that but if anyone wants the plans I can email them.
Just contact me at paulstephens @ q . com (without the spaces) and ask and I will return them.

Johnbra the question nobody has asked(and Im suprised by this) is how far are you intending to shoot?cause if you arent trying to shoot something in the neighbouring county maybe heavier and slower could be a much better idea.A softer heavy slug should be a more reliable option.

Ok, chambered, where does one get Lost River bullets? And, are they hunting bullets or just match?

Slim, I been doing a little reading up on this company and from what I have read they do make one of the best bullets with very high BC. Apparently their bullets are longer at the sacrifice of some powder capacity, and there is no lead as they use a copper-nickel alloy rather than pure copper. $2 per bullet Shocked But there is always a catch, do to the longer bullet, it is recommended a 1-8 twist for 168gr .308 bullet from this Co. So a few guys at the firing line have said to use this bullet properly, you need a custom barrel.

Aloys, your a hoot!

OV1, thanks for the info. That website didn't lead to anything using my web browser. I don't have twists that would accommodate those bullets. They must be really long because a 1:10 twist in a .30-cal rifle is pretty fast.

GS Customer Bullets of of South Africa might be another upscale hunting bullet to consider. They have a .30-cal bullet that will work in a 1:10 twist. I also find their web site provides thought provoking reading.

gscustom.co.za/

BC .638
177 gr
1.58 inches long
Long range 1:10" Twist 30-06, 300 Magnums.

wtf Your wrong.....must be a different area of lost !!!

Does anybody really believe that the intent of the OP was to find the highest BC possible for a 30 cal ???

johnbra.....you really need to step in and get the boys back on track !!!

Seems we're learning fast isnt necessarily a good thing, but i want to keep my trajectory as flat as possible.

this comment from johnbra's original post supports the discussion on BC to help keep a flat trajectory. but your right chamber, further discussion without johnbra's input is
