Two of us using ..50 ML and PowerBelt bullets over Hodgdon 777 were getting 1.5" groups at 100 yards off a bench. My .223 barrel gave me a 0.25" group at 100 yds using Speer 50 gr TNT bullets (can't recall the powder at the moment). I've been thinking about a .30 cal magnum of some sort for the next barrel. Leaning toward the .300 H&H.

For the Encore, my 300 Win. Mag. barrel is the most accurate one I have.

Ah. What Encore or Contender cartridges have I hunted with?

1. 222 Remington rifle; easily less than 1 MOA; more like 0.6 to 0.7 MOA. I took a deer with mine.

2. 22-250 Remington rifle also easily less than 1 MOA. I've taken 2 deer with it one being a 1 shot bang flop through the lungs at 360 yards.

3. 270 Winchester rifle. Easily 1 MOA. I took 1 deer with it.

4. 7mm/08 handgun shoots 1 to 1.5 MOA. I took a rabbit with it and it worked well.

5. 7mm Rem. Mag. easily less than 1 MOA. A hapless groundhog or two has fallen to it.

6. 308 Winchester rifle I took 4 deer with. It did about 1 MOA. All deer were bang flops which I think is more thanks to the load than anything else.

7. 30/06 rifle I've taken several deer and groundhogs with. It shoots 1 MOA with some loads and less than 1 MOA with others.

8. 357 Herret handgun that does about 1.5 MOA that I used to take a Black Wildebeest and several other antelope with.

9. 375 H&H Magnum rifle that did 1.5 MOA. It worked well on Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, etc. If you want a real hammer and don't mind a bit of recoil this is one to get. I sold my Encore 375 H&H Mag. rifle barrel but have a handgun barrel for it coming.

10. 460 S&W Mag. handgun that does less than 1 MOA. In fact, I've shot a 1.5 inch 200 yard 3 shot group with it and used it to take a bunch of animals such as Zebra, Red Hartebeest and even picked a Klipspringer off the top of a mountain about 180 yards distant.

TC encore.
Well I have a 22 Hornet and 243 Win.
I am cooking up new load for the 243. Just printed .25 at 100yds. I'll keep it.
I have a load I use for the Hornet with the 40gn Hornady Vmax. When I do my part it has printed .5 or less over the last 3 years. Took a crow couple of months ago at 200yds. It just works!

Squirrelbait, what load is that for the Hornet? I've got a box of 40 grain V-Max on the bench somewhere...

Slinger, what is really amazing is that I have switched to a lee turret press and the what ever they call it disk powder thrower. I know the there is +/- at least 0.1 grain of powder but it still shoots like a laser. I do get a flyer from time to time but not enough to bother me. I use winchester sr primers, 12.8 gn of hodgdon lil-gun. I went up to 13 even and really didn't see any difference I could measure with my own shooting skills. I got the same accuracy from the equivalent Nozler 40 gn bullet but the Hornady you can buy the box of 250 for a lot less per bullet.

Thanks Squirrelbait, that's the powder I was going to try. I have a Ruger 77/.22 Hornet with the sporterweight barrel. So far my best group is just under an inch. I've read about some tuning tips for the Rugers but haven't tried them yet.

Slinger, I've had good luck with this powder in my 357 loads also.
Kentucky, I live just 30 miles from the TC plant. It used to be I could go over and talk to the guys there. You still can but they don't have to time to look at you gun or really talk to you anymore. Everything is "by the book". I think things have changed a little since S&W bought them. Still make good guns, just not like it used to be.

Fn, not with the 40 grain V-Max. Tried it with the 35s.
