I've just been checking out my reloading kit as I am picking up the bits to make some 6.5 x 55mm tomorrow. Horror of horrors, my redding boss press has been left somewhere damp and the ram has all rusted up.

Do you guys know of a way of cleaning it up or is it time to get a new one? the rust is pretty heavy on one side.

Oops

I hate it when that happens. The rust may come off with some gun oil and fine steel wool. If the rust is really bad, then some fine sandpaper should take it off. Then leave a film of gun oil and gun grease on the ram to protect it. Hope this helps. All the best...

Break Free or Kroil should cut through the rust pronto. Then keep a light coat of break Free or similar oil on it from now on.....but you probably have figured that part out. The light coating of oil makes the press work better too........the strokes will be more consistent and the loads also more consistent.

If you have access to a bead blasting cabinet using glass beads that would get rid of all of the rust then a good coat of grease should keep it from rusting again.

Dear all

Press cleaned and 6.5 x 55 swedish is on the way. WD40 and wire wool cleaned everything and then coated with some butch's gun oil.
