Interesting…it’s one way of repopulating and extending the habitat of areas now devoid of species once living there.

Who is wrong…the “rewilders” who are returning wildlife to their natural habitat, or the so-called experts who have all this book learning and often nothing more?

And IMHO people doing this reintroduction should also pay for all the damages on trees, watering-systems and so on that these 'lovely' creatures are causing. But the green people like the grounds to become wet and no longer suitable for farming so that they can buy them cheap using taxpayer's money...

These beavers appear at the strangest places. We have a small river here in the neighbourhood and when it's cleaned and all dams removed, these dams reappear at the same spots within 2 weeks, even when no beavers available... they even use concrete piles... I think those beavers have a special engineering degree in building...

Beavers are protected by the law, so I have to be very careful what I say, but I've heard that they are rather tasteful... but that's hear-saying...

What worries me more is this group "Welcome wolves"... they even know all the wolves by name... recently "August" was killed in a car-accident and as result his wife "Nadia" is having great problems with their "children"... but IMHO they opened a "Wolf-Mc-Donalds" close to the nest, because very strange: less sheep and livestock are damaged since August died...
BTW, Welcome-Wolves is saying they are going to sue the government because they still didn't make a save crossing for wolves on that spot where August tried to fight a car...
It's rather strange that wolves can make such a trip from Poland or the Northern Germany, crossing many roads, canals and rivers (including the Rhine and the Meuse/Maas!) and then die on a stupid country road in Belgium... maybe they use wheels for their long trip?

some people - mainly hunters - are talking to start a group "Welcom bears". It's a logical step as lynx are also already coming... and it started many years ago with martens and foxes... and severe hunting-laws... You understand what happened with all our small game?

Soon our children and animals need a cage when they go for a walk...

The wolf's introduction back into the US has had a significant impact on game throughout the western US. At the root of the issue is the animal rights groups based all their studies on a small number of mating pairs. The wolf population has increased 100 times beyond their proposals. Wyoming has addressed this situation with a reasonable approach. They are protected around Yellowstone with a draw for hunting. Outside this region, wolves have the same status as coyotes. The state does ask for a DNA sample if you "dispose" of one.

Oh well, no native wolves in Australia, no beavers (not the dam building variety), no native cats, no native bears other than the koala (harmless unless they do a Jekyll and Hyde and transform into their alter ego, the dreaded Drop Bear), or any of the other predatory critters present in other parts of the world.

The only real native predator we had was the thlacine. The thylacine, also commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger or Tasmanian wolf, is an extinct carnivorous marsupial that was native to the Australian mainland. There is some talk that this animal is not totally extinct and survives deep in the remote northern rainforest region, but that is yet to be proven. Based on reported sightings, some scientists say the iconic creature probably survived until the late 1980s or 1990s, but others are skeptical. Additionally, they apparently are looking at cloning the critter as well. Considering the last known thylacine died in 1936, this is a possibility.

Apart from that, the only other “close to native” predator we have is the dingo, and we shoot them on sight.

Sooo, we don’t have to worry about native predators being re-introduced into areas, just the dingo and feral cats which are targeted and shot on sight.

poor old Dingo gets a bad rap.....they are going to be bred out by domestic dog crosses eventually.
thankfully the only predator semi native to NZ is humans
