An email I received from Aloys this morning...

All my life I have smiled at airrifles and now...
meet my new toy: a BSA Scorpion T-10 in 5,5 mm which happened to join my Theoben MFR in 4,5 mm.

Last Thursday we had 15 rabbits, but today I had to try the english saying "5,5 for hair, 4,5 for feathers".

But in England they drive at the left side of the road and since I allready used the Theoben MFR in 4,5 mm on rabbits, I had to try the BSA Scorpion 5,5 mm on feathers, we drive at the right side you know... Smile

so today I saw 2 roosters in front of my house and my Scorpion happened to lay in my car that was also parked in front of my house and I was accompanied of my biggest friend, so lots of good things seemed to fit together...
so a 5,5 mm at about 250 m/s trough the neck and my biggest friend immediatly understood her job and brought him to me...
maybe it's not all completely legal, as most fun is, but I like the result: a clean young rooster in my fridge Smile
and the other rooster learned something about life.

Conclusion: air is cheap, air is fun and it gets the job done!

Have fun,

Aloys

Well, at haloween I reached the 58 and this was not the first rooster I shot, but it sure was the first I shot with an airgun and I allready understand why airgun rhymes with fun...

and Vince, thanks for posting. Today we had 4 ducks, 2 roosters and 1 hare, but that was not with an airrifle, so not worth to take a picture Smile
and who wants to see a picture of a lot of empty beer bottles and/or even 1 bottle of "jenever"
when the going gets tough...

HEY happy birthday Aloysius!!! That's scary.....your birthday is on Halloween, so do you dress up as Daracula? Now you're my age. Do you still feel 16? I don't!!!

How far can you shoot that thing and kill a bird? Did you say 250 meters?

Not 250 metres Suz...250 metres per second velocity...about 820 fps.

Thanks.
And for hunting the 5,5 mm or .22 is imho better than the .177 (4,5mm), sure for an airrifle at larger distance. In England you need a FAC for such airrifle because it's more than 12 fpe. Here it's still free.

And at this moment there are still 2 things that limit its use: I don't have the best pellets (but will normally get them this week) and I'm still not good enough to read the wind.
But at the end of my garden there are 2 high trees at about 85 m (100 yards) and I will be happy when I can get the crows there.
And I think there is still some discussions about being allowed or not. I'm not so sure I'm allowed to shoot a crow this way. But for rabbits, dove and foxes, our laws say nominal caliber .22 (or 5,6 mm) without mentioning minimum energy levels (which they do for f.e. roedeer).
And in another article they forbit the use of rimfire.
But I've never seen any rules for airrifles. And the use of silencers is not allowed for guns or rifles using powder, but not for other things (as fe. a car, lawnmotor, ... or an airrifle...) that's something completely different.

so I think that you begin to understand that when somebody wants to do something in this country, you need to be at least half a lawyer...

And it carried your name in the title... Smile

Meanwhile I have better pellets, a better silencer and a newly planned meeting with the wabbits next Thursday...
I'll try to make some pictures so that you can forget your angry feet Smile

Great photos Aloys! Hela looks tired or mad or maybe just ready for a nap. Your weather must be staying nice.
