Those are all facts.
They have been circulating for as long as President Kennedy has been gone it think.
Too many similarities. Pretty spooky.

This has been going around since the death of Kennedy. Strangly most if not all are true. Not sure about the Monroe part for Kennedy.

And yes my proffs at the university would through out these little things when they were giving a lecture and we weren't paying attention and then have it on the quiz/final.

Or one can look at how anything can be connected if one looks hard enough.

You be the judge. To me it's just some fun trivia. For some it shows a conspiracy.

Bushmaster, I figure history repeats itself (more or less) simply because people really don't study it and therefore keep repeating the same mistakes. Anybody who has read about the rise and fall of the Roman Empire is probably nervous about the future of the US about now...

I wonder how many times one must be reminded that "history repeats itself" before a lot more listen and heed... As far as the U.S. and Rome are concerned we have a couple of hundred years left before we decline to total disfunction...

I think a lot of the problem is the way history is taught in schools. I've been a history buff as long as I can remember but even I thought it was pretty boring in class. I guess there was too much emphasis on "who" and "when" and nowhere near enough on "why". I also remember a high school history class where we spent a couple weeks on the Depression and then "... after that there was WW2 and after that ..." wtf

Rant As someone who is teaching history and not using their own ideas I find myself getting bored to death. When I was able to make up my own lessons I tried to figure out things that would make it fun for the kids. Like having them find the messages in songs from the Vietnam era. Only problem was that they didn't know how to think for themselves when I woud ask them what they thought it ment not what the websites said it ment. We also had a "paper war" in class that got totally out of control. Afterwords I would ask them how it related to what we were learning in class. Those things the kids still remember. But the stuff from the textbook most just go glossy eyed at.

Sorry just tired of my kids telling me that history is stupid and not worth their time.

So I agree it's how it's taught, drill and kill works for math and some english but not history.

A few years ago I had a chance to walk the battlefield at Gettysburg with Jeff Wert, a Civil War author and high school history teacher, during a seminar about the battle. He said that he'd realized that he wasn't teaching history, he was teaching "the test" (the end-of-grade test the students had to pass). He'd changed his emphasis to actually teaching history. He said his students might not pass the test but they now knew real history.

By the way, I highly recommend his books!

If I could have figured out how to make a living with a history degree (other than teaching), I would have pursued that degree with gusto, instead of the science degree that I have. Don’t get me wrong, I love science, but history has a mystique about it. The question is always there, that asks why something happened that way and what events, done differently could have changed the outcome.

You were extremely lucky to get to listen to Jeff Wert. He’s one of my favorites and I would have jumped at the chance to be on that walk through the battlefield.

As an elective, I took an advanced history class in college called the Mysteries of the Civil War. The name of the class intrigued me. No other information was given about the class. Well, when the class was about to start, the professor was injured in a car wreck, so the college brought in a new professor that was a Civil War battle tactics specialist. He decided to teach the class like you would study it a military war college where the tactics of the great warriors of the past are studied (such as the battle maneuvers of Napoleon). We studied every maneuver and counter maneuver in the American Civil War. It was one of the most interesting classes that I have ever taken. Of course, I’m an old Viet Nam warrior.

As far as the mysteries of the similarities between Lincoln and Kennedy, I believe like Bushy; it’s just something to do for idle minds. I’ve heard several of those types of comparisons in my life, involving different people. If you look long enough, you could probably find mysterious similarities between the life of Bushy and Genghis Khan, or since he’s an old sailor, Captain Hook! Oh, there’s one!

Have a great day!

Cary

RETIRED Sailor! Not OLD Sailor!!...Captain Hook? Why yes...I'm an "old" Peter Pan fan...

I, too, am a history buff ,ancient history. My company sent me to Crete and Athens on a job and I had the great fortune to have plenty of off time and enjoyed seeing first hand and actually touching that ancient civilization, both Greek and Roman. Even toured a Roman Bath on Crete. Most of which was still standing and the 2000+ year old cisterns were still working...

U.S. history doesn't interest me as much as ancient history. U.S. is the sumation of ancient history and why and who we are...

Bushy,

I stand corrected. Once a sailor, always a sailor.

And, yes, history always defines who we are. It's a shame that in-depth history is not taught in junior high or high school. I think it would help the younger generation figure out who and why we are the way we are. A little civics wouldn't hurt eather. That's a class that has been totally dropped from the requirments down here.

You are fortunate to get to see the remains of some of the great societies of the world.

Cary
