What power scope would you outfit this rifle with. It is a medium heavy sporter.

I have a 4X12-42 on mine. Great for 300 to 400 yards. Depending on your use you could go to a 24 power. I would look more a the quality of scope, then look at the power. Good luck.

Absolutely!

Quality is first and foremost! My shots will be from 10-500 yds (prairie dogs mostly)

And welcome to the forum! Very Happy

Welcome to the site Jerryq.

I love my 6.5x20 Leupold. Great scope!

Pop, on scopes for PD's I find that something in the 4-16 or 6-18 range is the most useful. Most of the time do to the heat waves and such, you're not able to use much more magnification then that anyways, so I personally wouldn't spend extra money for something that goes beyond 16 or 18 power. You get a pretty good look at PD's at 500 yards when set at 15 power. Have fun with your .204--tr

I agree with Shrpshtrjoe....the mil dot can be a great thing especially with the 6.5-20 scopes. Very Happy

I see. I wanted something between a walking varminter and a bull barrel setup. I wanted something slim and kinda light, not a 3 lbs 3x90x120mm AO starlight Very Happy

I put a Elite 3200 4-12 x 40 on my .204 Ruger and love it. I almost went with a 5-15 power, but my friend who has shot a lot of sod poodles, said he used to use 15-20 power scopes but now only uses 10's & 12's because when the air temp heats up, you experience less heat shimmer at lower powers.

AH has a good suggestion. The Elite 3200 and 4200 scopes are as clear and dependable as Leupold. Leupold seems to be on a mission to confuse it's customers with all the different and constantly changing models.

I use Weavers my self, either the fixed or varieable's, for the walking varminter the K6X would be what I use. I had one on my 77/22Hornet and loved it to pieces........not literaly.

+1, moose2.

Magnification is less critical than resolution and clarity. Great glass in the 10 to 12X range offers the full range of performance for prairie dogs out to the practical limits of 22 centerfires, IMO.

That said, POP!!, what did you mount on the 204?

I put a nikon monarch 6.5 to 20x44 on my kimber. This is brand new
but i am thinking for hunting bigwoods yotes up here in vt that it may be too much scope. Even at 6.5 it is hard to pick up a sight pic at 50 yrds.
The scope itself is awsome..Clear and nice res.
So i would ask yourself what are you going to be doing with this and at what ranges do you expect. This might be a good scope for you if you are going to hunt pdogs in kansas. I popped a crow with mine the other day at 275 yrds
and only used 10x.Good quality does not mean high power. I will probably
sell this and get a 3-9x
