Since the 223/5.56 is such a great cartridge (lol) why not carry one of them ???
You could easily carry 200+ rounds already loaded in that 1 pound powder can, no re-loading needed !!!

Got another idea !!! Why not carry a muzzle loader ??? Puts a new spin on that re-loading thing, don’t it !!! Just remember to keep your powder dry !!!

I think that if I have to go the survival route I'll go with my "Jack Handle". I know I can carry plenty of ammunition for it. Carrying a front loader? I don't think so. Not in this day and age and besides...My .50 Hawkens is way too heavy and can not see even carrying 150 round ball, powder and caps for it...And I really don't care what the "old timers" did...! Very Happy

Considering a single round of 308Win (or similar) can net you a deer, which can be dehydrated into jerky, with the addition of berries into the meat before drying you'll have a supply of meat that will not only keep you in proteins but vitamins due to the berries keeping you relatively healthy. All that is needed else to supplement that diet is some corn and maybe some wheat flour. It will not be as filling as any of us are used to, but it has kept many thousands of men fed during the fur trade here in Canada for years at a time.

If anyone cares to I'll look for the old recipe book I got with the more traditional foods eaten here in Canada. Smile

I don't see the need to worry about ammunition. 200 rounds will go a long way to keep you fed. If your talking a pure survival situation where resupply from enemy troops may not be possible.

Being from Ely D., I have seen guys like this more times than I care to count.
They come into town, spend a week in the woods, [if that], and become "experts". They even will call themselves "Master Guides", whatever the hell that means.
Us locals just roll our eyes and laugh at them, but the rookies suck all of his BS up.
Sometimes the idiot gets fans from being on You Tube. Very Happy Very Happy

OK, it wasn't me.
I'm confused.
It's the CIA's fault.

I rest my case.

I'm the first one to say take more ammo, and you guys just added on.
DON'T accuse me of anything.

I'm the SPEAKER!!

Oh--I forgot--I'm just ElyBoy.

Carry on. Very Happy Very Happy
