I am new to this site, and have enjoyed what I have read and seen so far!

I purchased a Stevens Model 200 Made by Savage, in a 300 Win Mag. 2 years ago after returning home from Iraq.

I have taken it on a couple deer hunts and out target shooting several times. It is a very accurate rifle and can shoot long distances, which is why I wanted this caliber.

One problem I have is when I am working the bolt at a slow to moderate pace the live shell that is supposed to be working into the chaimber will shoot out the top and on to the ground. I have noticed if I work the bolt quickly everything works fine.

I am wondering if any of you guys have purchased this model of rifle and had similar problems? Or if it is something that is wrong with the action on this particular rifle.

froeal

Sounds to me like one of two things. Either the lips on your magazine box are too open (far apart) or possibly it is not sitting properly in your stock and action.

I would first try taking the barreled action out of the stock and then reinstall it making sure that the magazine box is in the correct location and the magazine spring and follower are installed correctly.

If that doesn't work then I would give savage a call and see what they have to say.

This is just a guess and I'm sure there will be other posts soon to help you with your problem.

Welcome to Hunting Nut froeal_1132. Grab a beer, pull up a stump and sit awhile mate.

Your problem sounds a bit like the extractor isn't grabbing the rim of the case quite right. It may be a combination of a couple of minor things...as Brad said...check the magazine...it may be that the extractor doesn't get the chance to grab the rim because the mag releases the round too early and the spring gives it a good shove upwards.

I'm no gunsmith, but there are a couple of very knowledgeable guys in that area here and I feel certain that one of them can identify the problem for you.

Cheers, Vince

Welcome to the HuntingNut froeal_1132. I would check the magazine opening as well it does sound like it's open too far. Let us no how you make out with it.
Joe

Thanks for the info guys! I made the necessary adjustments to the magazine opening and the action is working much better.

Maybe I can get a deer with it this year. Here in Utah you can only shoot one deer per year, and the program I am hunting under only allows a person to shoot 2 deer in 3 years but you get to hunt all of the seasons. In 2006 I didn't find one worth shooting and last year I took a nice buck with my smokepole. So this year I need to break in the 300 and kill a buck with it.
