Coyote/bobcat calling can be addictive and I have been an addict for over four decades. During those many stands I have called in two mountain lions, one left intact, the other is a nice wall mounted rug. Both were unintentional responses during a routine coyote session.

This year I have discussed the hows and wheres of mountain lion calling with one gent that routinely calls them in. By routinely I mean he gets a cat for every twenty or so stands and, so far, that is better than anyone else I know. After much imploring and begging he took me on two trips. We didn't get a lion but we passed on a few errant coyotes that were curious enough to investigate. That took some discipline.

So far this year I have made nine stands. Each stand takes about three to four hours and it is protocol to be on stand before first light. And, so far, I have had zero response. That cats are territorial and their range is projected to be 75 to 150 miles, so it is a matter of being on stand at the right time on the one hand, and having a cat hungry enough to investigate on the other hand.

Now with a three day absense from work scheduled, I will try a few more stands. I am encouraged by three separate lion tracks in one area; I suspect there is some overlapping territory. And, I hope I have some great news to report. Ah, the virtues of persistence. . .

Have any of you had success in calling mountain lions? If so, I would be interested in details such as time of day/year, length of stand, etc.

TIA

I HAVE NEVER CALLED IN CATS LIKE THAT BUT WOULD SURE LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IT. I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ONE GOOD LION IN MY LIFE AND IF LEARNING TO CALL ONE IN HELPS I WANT TO KNOW. I HAVE SEEN MAYBE 4 LIONS IN ALL THE TIME I HAVE SPENT HUNTING. MOST OF THE TIME IT WAS A GLIMPSE HERE AND THERE. KEEP US POSTED.

We don't have mountain lion in my area, just unsubstantiated rumors, Our hunters do call in the occasional lynx and bobcat Is it possible to call in mountain lion? I've often wondered about this, but never heard anything about it. Best wishes.

You guys are kidding, right??? Those things BITE! Besides, there is the imagery of a grown man dressed in full camo standing there, saying Here, Kitty, kitty. Very Happy

Kidding aside, we have some of the fern fondler ilk living in the mountains east of here, and they get very upset at the legal taking of mountain lions in the state.

Their tune changed, and became much shriller when the big cats started coming into the city limits, and found out that small, yappy dogs not only taste good, but are easy to catch.

BUT let a citizen shoot one in defense of Fluffy, or even in self defense, and he is in Deep Trouble.

California has a bigger problem, because their cougars are protected, and have found out that HUMANS, too, are easy to catch, and taste good. Californians have discovered that it is not a good feeling to be one step below the top of the food chain. Shocked

I live in california at the moment (hopefully not for long). I am not one step down on the food chain. If privoked I will kill the big cats.

"Here kitty, kitty" My A** L O L

By the way. You can call them in by using a injured rabbit call. Just like for coyotes, bob cats and lynx...
