I forgot to mention one thing: I also own a pre 1964 Winchester 30-30. It operates perfectly.

Um....Eric....ERIC.....
my two favourite hunting rifles are a Weatherby Vanguard synthetic in .243 Win which shoots .7" at 100m (109.3 yds) and my Winchester Model 94 Lver in 30.30 Win. Both excellent rifles mate. No Drugstore Cowboys here.

About 10 years ago I was thinking about buying a 270 Weatherby Magnum from an employee that needed some money. It was a beautiful rifle. A local gun dealer told me that it was worth about 800 dollars in it's condition. I took it out to see if it would hold a group and the first shot felt like I was kicked by a mule, and I'm a big guy. I desided that hunting should be pleasurable not painful. I guess if you're shooting rinos, moose, elk, or some other large game, you might need something that large. I loaned the boy some money, to pay me back a little from each paycheck, and felt that I made the right move.
This isn't putting down the Weatherby, it's just not what I needed.

One other thing" I never buy a gun to hang on the wall. They are tools that I take good care of, but not for show. Fancy stocks, don't do a thing for me. I've never seen fancy wood make a rifle shoot better. I've bought a few pretty ones, but after bouncing around in the pickup for a while, they get scratched up like the rest of them.
I know a lot of gun owners that keep some of their collectors items under glass for show, but that's not for me. I treat vehicles the same way.
I kept a pickup on the ranch for 10 years one time and never washed it. It was brown with mud and dirt. When I got ready to trade it it, I scrubbed the dirt off and found an almost new paint job underneath. It was protected from the sun and scratches from brush by all that dirt. I got top dollar for my trade in because it looked so good.

Hey Vince,
You Aussie's don't count when it comes to using Weatherby's.
With your gun laws over there, any gun that you can get hold of without being arrested by the State is OK with me.
I agree with you Cary on using the guns that you have.
That unfired Vaquero 44/40 that I got, was unfired for about 24 hours after I bought it. Then it was a Virgin no more.

WEATHERBYS>
Read an article the other day in the Australian shooter Mag and there are over 10,000 Weatherbys sold in Australia they can't be that bad or they would be out of buisness perty quick.
