It sure does depend on where you are when people talk about best calibers. Here in Canada I'd bet that the 303 British has killed more game than any other caliber. Mainly due to the fact that after both world wars there were thousands of surplus 303's and people could buy them cheep and they were a pretty good caliber. My father bought a model 3 at Eaton's bargain basement in Toronto for $15 back in the 1950's. They were stacked in big square bins like corn brooms at the hardware store stacked in garbage cans.

Nice Elk though. I think I'd like something a little heavier than a 30/30 while chasing something that large, but it sure did seem to do the job well enough.

Grant,

The link stablebuck posted only talks about rounds created in the 20th Century, so the 303 British like the 30-30 talked about isn't in the running for it. Smile

I know the real hunting round that has taken more game then anything else but shhh this is the wrong catagory to mention that the Twenty-Two Long-Rifle has probably taken more game and has been shot more then most "Big game" calibers. Hiding

Dimitri

I thought of you Bushy, when I read this:You can always distinguish a devoted black-timber elk hunter from the average nimrod; he's the one whose rifle wears no scope, leaving him ready for encounters at close quarters.)
I'm taking my scope off my 94, 30-30

Great for close range shooting like 100yrds, a brush buster for sure, BUT not long range shooting though, too much trajectory for my liken, 7mags and 300WSM for me these days....Great bull though!
