Well, after a week in the deep freeze, the sun came out yesterday and pretty much cleared all the snow and ice away from North Texas. Just in time for the big game today. I don't think I've watched an entire football game all season. Gave blood this afternoon so will likely take at easy and watch this one.
Does this game show down under?

The NFL has a big "lock" on this event. The city has to give them 100 free hotel rooms. Also, no advertisement can you the words "Super Bowl" unless they NFL gets paid. That's why you hear a lot of ads leading up to the game call it the "Big Game" or "Game Day".

Well, I have no favorite but am glad Green Bay is in the lead at the half. Our Nation owes GB. They beat Chicago! If Chicago had won, Obama said we would attend the Super Bowl. The cost of Obama and his entourage attendance would have run our National debt up even more!!

Well, Jerry Jones (Cowboys & Stadium Owner) missed the record books. He was trying to have the largest attendance for the Super Bowl, surpassing the 1980 Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl in CA. He missed it, bringing in only 102,000 fans. 1200 fans got turned away because the fire marshall did not approve some temporary seat. These fans were given a letter of apology and a refund of 3 times their face value.
Congrats Green Bay and all their fans!

Geland!! I have the same question about the ski bowl. There are lots of ski areas that are referred to as ski bowls.....gotta be the shape, but a ski slope is a bowl shape? Pretty sure the football thing is all about the shape of the stadium. There's other football play-offs that are called bowl games, why aren't the regular games in the same stadium called bowl games? Probably we'll never know.
Suz
don't use bowls

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl
"The name derives from a college football tournament which started in 1902, subsequently played in the Rose Bowl stadium starting in 1923, and which later became known as the Rose Bowl football game. (The stadium in Pasadena, CA was called the Rose Bowl because it resembles a bowl.) Exploiting the popularity of the Rose Bowl stadium and its college championship game of the same name, the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl football games were created in 1935, followed by the Cotton Bowl in 1937 (at a bowl-shaped stadium called the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas). "Bowl" thus became a standard term, and other bowl games were created in later years. The NFL championship started in 1967 when the "bowl games" were already well known to football fans, and was casually dubbed "Super Bowl". That nickname was especially fitting because the Super Ball was a popular toy for children at the time. Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt helped convert the nickname into an official name by 1970."

At least one Aussie made the trek to see the game. A real down under cheesehead!

Wow, lots of news stories going on in the local area and nation wide about this Super Bowl.
Christina Aguilera flubs line of national anthem
Sorry, she butchered the words and the music to our National Anthem. Then the Blackeye Pea had to get political.
Blackeye Pea addresses Obama during half-time show
Then there are ones you only hear about locally. The NFL brought their own people in to run the Super Bowl. They didn't use the people who knew how to run the stadium so there were lots of mix ups. Their security folks were priceless. Lines were 3+ hours long and they wouldn't let people out to go the bathroom or they had to go back to the end of the line. Some people had wet trousers for the game. The NFL set the food prices. Lots of unhappy sports fans. Quess with 100,000+ people all cramed into a stadium, you can't please all the fans.
I did think the area did pretty good considering the weather. That was one whopper of a winter storm for our area. They brought snow plows and road chemicals in from other areas to try and deal with all the ice.

Judging by the outlash done by Obama supporters on news sites against will.i.am, you'd think that the president doesn't have any real power to push the economy one way or the other. And yet those same people blame Bush for the current economic situation. If BEP did this 4 years ago, everyone would have been chanting on how great they are to criticize Bush judging by the comments on news sites.
I find this quite funny.

Yes Dimi but not if you're living here, it's not funny it's scary, sort of like the Twilight Zone where everything is upside down and backwards and opposite and skewed it just doesn't make any sense and there are lots of people that agree with him and lots of people that don't and even tho the right wins the argument the left never even heard it.
In reality he only talks a socialist story, it's made up as we go along, and even though we should all know the beginning and the end, we only know we're on our way. They have truly changed the definitions of words in the way they can say one thing, and deny it's another, only to find in the end it's the way you define it. Share the wealth is not socialist, it's making sure that the needy are taken care of. (socialist) Take away the corporate tax breaks and share the wealth, ok, now who has a job? If they don't have incentive to do what they do, why should they stay there? Give no-one an incentive to prosper and we end up in the soup line. They actually want a world economy and this is how we start. If everyone is equal then everyone is equally poor. Who prospers? The people taking care of the people's needs. They'll need lots of money to do that, and here's how we get it.
Around here they are starting to close schools and fire teachers, lay off law enforcement and firefighters, so we can maintain the other (vital) services. The social services. Who's going to take care of the poor, if we don't cut back (sort of their motto). It's all denied that it's socialist but what the heck is it, if it isn't socialist?

Reminds me of a movie I saw many many years ago called Soylent Green, set in 2022. I wonder if someone had a crystal ball back in those days?

Now that is a very scary thought!
