Point Hiding While stationed in Alaska in 1967 my buddy and I decided to take some pictures of the Island game animals. We found a cow and her calf. She put up with us for a while, but when she got tired we thought it was funny. We were both a couple of country boys and were used to animals so we played with her till we tired of the game. My buddy climbed a tree, and I found a cluster of three trees growning close together. I would just step through and she would have to go around.

She finally walked off, and after waiting we started back to base. We were on an island in Cook Inlet so it would have been hard to get lost.

We went west till we got to the cliff face, and then headed south toward the road to base.

Crying or Very sad Sad Jaw Drop Sad Suddenly we heard a noise and that old cow was almost on top of us. We had no choice but to jump off the edge of the cliff. It was about 15 feet to soft dirt and we sunk in to our knees. At that point the cliff face eroded regularly and there was about 80 feet of 1>1 soft dirt. The Military kept ropes thrown over the side so people caught in the 28 ft. tide could climb up and be safe. We had to move along the top of the cliff for a half mile before we got to one.

We were pretty careful when we got to the top, but she must have been satisfied with making us jump over.

JUST A PICKEN AND GRINNEN.

Yep, those mama Moose are BIG. On a '94 trip to Alaska in a small plane we landed at Denali (Mt. McKinley) airport. The information manual said to click the radio mic several times on the Unicom frequency to set off the Moose Siren to move any moose off of the runway.

We didn't see the need because we had a clear view of the runway and there were no moose on it. We landed and tied down the plane and we heard some noise in the brush behind the plane. First we saw the mother then the calf.

My wife just had to have pictures so she started snapping away and that got the calf's attention and it came out onto the runway to check out my wife and pose for pictures with moma right behind. The wife just did not understand. I had to put the grab on her and we left the area. Mad

At the hotel restraunt the staff told us that we were lucky that mom didn't stomp us. Then the wife understood. Hard headed persnickedy wimen! Mad

We didnt waste any time in our departure because mom was still right behind the plane when we got back. I noticed that her shoulder was higher than the wing of the Cessna 210 that we were flying. BIG MAMA !!!

Had many encounters with momma mooses as well as bulls. Worked in the woods for many years, and it was the one animal that worried me the most. They are big and very unpredictable especially during calving season and during the rut.--tr

Whilst i lived in AK my X wife was chased up a tree while fisihng on the Chatinika River near Fai-maybe that's why she left AK- alls well that ends well. I also had a cow smash into my dog team and cut several lines and scare the heck outta the dogs-i was lucky none were hurt-My sone aslo had a cow jump into his car seat- through the windshield- mad or not it was a mess- and then we often had cows and calves chasing our dogs into their kennels when snow got realdeep and they wanted to eat our horse hay.
