Yesterday during the Pistol League that I run, one of the guys told me that he wanted to sell some of his rifles and get more pistols.
I asked what he was going to sell, and he told me that he wanted to get rid of his Kalashnikov .308 Sniper rifle. He then asked if I had any pistols to trade.
I told him that the only one that I would part with would be my Uberti Cattlemen .45 Colt. I told him that Gander was selling them new for $400.00.
He then said that he would trade with me for his Kalashnikov.
We met today, and when he opened the case, I saw a pristine sniper gun with a Russian scope, wood stock and forearm that had not been shot very much at all.
I took three shots off hand at 50 yards, and hit the bull all three shots.
He was very happy with my Uberti, and I ended up with a Sagia .308-1 Kalashnikov with two mags, all of the extra eye pieces for the scope, and the entire cleaning kit.
The sling is like new, and made of heavy green canvas type material.
The scope also lights up for low light shooting, has a "T" crosshairs, with range increments.
The elevation and windage dials are also made for quick yardage changes.
What kind of makes me feel bad, is that I purchased the Uberti used for only $179.00 a few years ago.
I never thought that I would own a combat weapon like this, but boy am I going to have fun tomorrow at the range.
I showed it to the manager at the Wolf's Den gun shop, and he drooled all over it.
He is very knowledgeable on Kalashnikov rifles and said that I just got a high end gun that is worth quite a few $.
Reading up on this rifle, it looks like the Russians went much higher quality on their sniper weapons than with the ordinary AK 47s.
I intend to go to Confession on Sunday after this one.

Don't feel bad, it is all about being at the right place at the right time. The rifle now has a fine new home and the fellow will like the .45 Colt. I like a story with a happy ending. Take care...

I'll try to get one of my kids to take a picture, and post it.
Wolf's Den has a bunch of .308 military ammo, but Gary doesn't know what the owner, Brian is charging for it.
I figure that it should be cheap enough that I will be better off for now to buy their military ammo, and then look around for some bulk 30 cal bullets for reloading later.
I have a couple of thousand once fired .308 brass for reloading.

Ely, maybe you should edit your first post just in case your pistol swapping friend becomes a HuntingNut member.

Since you'll be spending all your time with your new found love.......You won't be needing that Sig 220 9mm.............Right !!!
Slim, I somehow sense some irony and humor here !!!

Hey Chamber, I now have a Sig P220 9mm and a P220 45ACP
I will try to get my oldest Son Ben, to get pics up of the Kalasnikov.
For some reason, the photos that I try to get on the net on my screen doesn't work.

Zach and I just returned from the Range.
Shot a bunch of pistols, then went to the 100 yard range and let loose with the Kalashnikov.
I made some adjustments on the elevation, and from there on the Rifle drove tacks off a sandbag rest.
I tried the new magazine to see if it functioned ok, and it worked better than the ones that came with the gun.
With the old mags, the action wouldn't stay open after the last fired shot, and when racking a round into the chamber, I had to take the safety off, then put the shell to chamber, then go back to safety.
With the new mag. all worked as it should.
I think that I will order two more 8 round mags from this company.
The new one is a Sure Fire.
Much safer, and worth the extra money.
Next week, I plan on increasing yardage, and see how this gun shoots at longer ranges.
Right now, I'm using some cheap Chinese ammo, but plan on looking for some bulk .308 bullets for reloading,
I have a couple thousand once fired .308 brass, so if I can find a good deal on the bullets, that is the way I will go from now on.
