"I have pretty much decided to send the Hornady dies back ..."

Why not give Hornady a chance to correct it first?

If you hope that buying from ANY manufactor of ANYTHING will assure perfection out of the box, every time, you will be disappointed with all of them occasionally.

You may want to consider sending a sample of your brass with them so they can see for themselves what your dealing with !!!

may sound silly but I know someone who did this..... are you using the correct shell plate? RCBS and Hornady numbering is different for the same caliber. Hornady dies will say to use #2 shell holder and if you grab a #2 RCBS....

as mentioned, the person I know did this and the shell holder he chose pushed the base of the brass slightly off center of the die and it would bind near the end of sizing stroke.

Deadon, that's a pretty good observation! I use the Lee shell holders (nice kit with the shellholder/case information on the bottom) With Hornady or RCBS dies. There don't seen to be any matches between the shell holder # on the die box and the Lee numbers but you could obviusly get close enough to cause a problem.

Correct shell holder.....That is a good one! I had not thought of that.

And you may be onto something there as well. But I am wondering if this really is the problem though because if he was using an incorrect shell holder then I would think there would be obvious problems like a case rim pulled off and the case stuck in the die. Allthough the first thing I tell folks about firearms is there are a few rules and the rest you just have to learn.

So yeah.. I will file this one away for further use! TNX!!

I bought a set of Hornaday 7mm Rem. dies. They were not polished properly if at all. I f.l. sized two fired brass and sent them back to Hornaday.
I called and talked to some one who claimed that the dies were all cut to SAMMII specs BUT they just polished these dies and never checked the dimensions .

"Why not give Hornady a chance to correct it first? "

I did and ran into an attitude with the C.S. person .
He really didn't know anything about handloading and it showed.

Buy Forster dies and avoid the Hornaday problems.
They do make great bullets though!

Sorry to hear your about dealings with C.S. at Hornady !!!

Things must have changed some around there since I’ve last talked to them.
I’d call back and ask to speak to a manager and voice my disconcert with their phone rep.

Stonewall, I agree with Chambered221, call back for a different rep or manager. I had an issue with 220 swift dies (the primer pin), the ID neck sizing ball would slide down. It was glued on, now a threaded design. Hornady CS was great, they sent a replacement, plus 2 new designed pins and asked for feedback, then they sent the final version.

Who knows, maybe you were talking with CS in India...the growing trend.
