I am going to take a slightly different route here.

While I do totally agee with the statements it is pricless as I have a few family treasures myself. And old watch that was bought around 1900 under a scam and recently had two 1911s passed down to me. All of these are worth more to me simply because of the historical family meaning they carry and the stories they could tell of the owners who are my ancestors some blood some not; would just be incredible and truthfully priceless. Tools; in my next to worthless opinion, do take on the personalities of the owners who have handled them and cared for them.

My thoughts on this might be that maybe you are looking for an insurance value should you need to replace this fine old "piece" of family history though keeping in mind it would not be the "same" as it is a different object with another story of it's own. One thing I am wanting to find is the first HAM radio I had when I first got my ticket. They are out there but are not easy to find. Anyway good luck and be safe and most of all enjoy spending time with that little one of yours, the time you spend together will teach her the type of man she should be with the rest HER life. FACT!!

Oh when she does take that first game animal, make it a point to take it too the table and show her the proper way of a hunter. And make it a BIG DEAL!! Today our daughter put the food on the table type of thing. It will be forever burned into her memory and stay there. Not a bad thing really and even if you hate the animal still make it point. HA HA HA!! I am not a big fan of rabbit or squirrel but you can bet on it that when my munchkinman Adrian gets his first game animal it WILL go on the table no matter the size. HE HE HE!!! Best of everything to you and your family.

To all who has responded, For some,I feel they took my topic in the wrong direction. My daughter and I have been hunting buddies for 2 seasons now, here in the buckeye state (Ohio). The only gun she owned at the time is a little .410 s/s that i bought her and it kicks pretty good. We do alot of bow hunting for whitetail deer and I also took her for the second time during the "youth" gun season. Both bow and with the .410, she came face to face with a doe (bow hunting) and a nice little 6 point (gun)while sitting with me up in our 2 seated tree stand i set up just for us. This 20 gauge i am asking about is NOT and WILL NOT EVER be sold. This is a keep sake that she will enjoy as long as she wants to hunt. She got to shoot the 20 gauge this Tuesday the 30th while hunting rabbit for the first time and loves it. It hardly kicks and I even had her shoot the 20 with a #6 shot H/brass shell and she still loves it. Heck she wants to get rid of the .410 now. My topic was only to find out what this style of old gun is worth for the fact of the insurance that I have on all my firearms. In my daughters heart, its worth millions but we all know if something happend to it......its only worth dirt to the mean old insurance adjuster when it comes time to pay for the loss. I gave my father in law my word that it will never leave our family....NEVER. And I mean it. My father bought me my first gun and I have been offered good $ for it, but...no money will replace the memories I will get when I use it or even look at it,so I know my daughter will do the same. Thanks all and I hope I cleared it all up. God Bless you all and Happy Hunting and be safe. Chad

Vince

I don’t know Vince I think you expressed you opinion well, and it is fully your right to do so. So don’t beat yourself up.

It is remarkable how in today’s world so many have to have the dollar sign attached to everything they own. Family heirlooms are priceless, it could have been a tin whistle your great great granddad carried with him around the world, the whistle isn’t worth a dine, but the time I spent on his knee hearing the stories of where that whistle has been helped shape my life. I have copies of copies of documents that I cherish, because they are about my ancestors.

As for the impact on the daughter, I have to relate what happened yesterday in the woods. My daughter about three weeks ago said she would like to try hunting. At first I did not believe her, but I agreed to it and have taken her out several times in the last month. Now, understand my daughter is 38 years old and has given me my greatest treasures a grandson and daughter.

But, back to the story, all the times she has been out hunting she never saw anything, while I was. Yesterday she saw her first deer actually 4 of them, but says she did not have time to fire. She was OK with that and I could see by the look on her face that she was very excited about just seeing them. Meanwhile I had shot a Boar, and lost the blood trail, she found it, she has great eyes. She tracked that boar down in a very few minutes and was so excited, I cannot explain how it made me feel. The look on her face will be remembered till I die.

Vince say your piece, and don’t hold back. If we’re not tough enough to handle it that’s our problem. I have enjoyed everything you've posted that I have read.

Sorry for the long story.

Presuming you were to die today, would all your belongings engender value to your descendents? If we each look at our "stuff" there are probably things that are special and, just as probably, things we are on the verge of discarding or taking to the Salvation Army depot. OTOH, in families with good communication, there are some items that are understood to be heirlooms and their continuity generation to generation expected. Generally, we know which is which.

If I were to die today, it wouldn't bother me one iota if some of my stuff was sold off or donated or trashed. That is the decision of the living. If some momento of mine has meaning to my progeny, that is their burden to bear or enjoy. But, if they needed to convert any of the firearms or vehicles to cash for food, for education or for more pertinent needs of theirs, I have no problem with it.

Now, excuse me. I need to polish my grandfather's lathe.

On the same subject, I wear a ring that my Granddad was wearing in a picture with my Dad and Grandmother that was taken around 1922, when Grandpa was a prize fighter. That picture is hanging in the front room.
This same ring I see in a picture with my Dad, Brother, and 3yr old Me.
A while back, I had it enlarged so I can wear it.
I have no idea what it's worth, and don't care, but I wouldn't sell it for nothing.

I guess that my point is, that I'm not a money man, and the Family things that I have, I don't even think of how much that it's worth in dollars, and don't have much respect for people who think otherwise.
I just don't need to be around folks like that.

Eric

Fair call Chad. I guess I am still suffering from the residuals of a rather nasty argument...one sided...that my brother threw at me just before Christmas.

Thanks for your kind words Lester. I try to be as objective and fair and honest as I can with my posts. I do put a fair amount of thought into them so that I avoid offending anybody because we all have our beliefs and stand by them.

Hang on Handy....now you are talking about an entirely different thing....you mentioned the most important thing that a guy has in his garage/workshop/cave/dungeon/den/personal area.....STUFF.

Stuff is singularly the most important and "valuable" things a guy owns. Very Happy Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

It does seem that we kinda wandered off on a tangent here... And I'm as guilty as anyone.

As to the original question - my Blue Book shows a Model 220 valued at $125 to $40, depending on condition. Models 220P (Polychoke), 220AC (Savage adjustable choke) and 220L (side lever) a little less. The first 3 models were made during 1938-65 and the "L" was made from 1965-72.

I don't see a listing for a 220A.
