I have a Springfield/Savage Model 120 that i have been wanting to put a scope on. The only problem is the rear sight is placed right in the middle of the scope grooves. It looks as if the rear sight can come off but i dont want to break it and be out the rear sight.

Can anybody give any insight on taking this off?

Will post pictures up here in a little.

You can get scope mounts that are made for keeping iron sights inplace. Several maufacturers such as B-Square make a see-thru ring that will let you use scope and iron sights.

Sir, That site will come right off. Its just dove tailed in. Get a small brass hammer and brass drift punch and drift it right out of the way. Then mount your scope as usual. Brownells makes a dove tail blank to fit in the dove tail slot to make it look better if your taste goes that way.
The lower the scope is(closer to the bore) the better it will work.

Yep atrox....perzackerly what the Crackster and Gelan said mate. I've done the same with a couple of my rifles to fit a scope.:-D Laughing

It will appear to be solid at first, but keep a 'tappin' mate...it will drift out.

Cheers, Vince
