I know I'm over cleaning don't get me wrong, but thats how I was taught, and has worked for me.

My motto is:

Quote::
Keep the rifle clean & maintained, and have plenty of ammunition. Wink

And hey I'm not as bad as some, who ONLY shoot from a clean cold bore. Nananana

Yeah, yeah...I know....it's a total nono NoNo ...but rather than risk upsetting the zero by removing the stock from the action I give it a liberal spray, using the little thin tube that comes with the can, in between the stock and action to get any water out that has got in between the stock and action.

Taking the stock off a Weatherby can and does upset the point of impact. I found this out quite by accident so the only time the stock comes off is when I have the time and place to redo the zero.

I never...NEVER...use it anywhere else or for any other purpose on the rifle !!

Cheers, Vince

I hope you have a synthetic stock, I would not spray WD-40 anywhere near wood. I use paste wax on my rifles on areas unaccessable to wiping down to prevent rust between dissassemblys. I am not one however who condemns WD-40, I actually use it for some uses in gun cleaning. Mainly for driving moisture out of my muzzleloader locks after washing in hot water.

Yes mate...synthetic stock. My rifles with wooden stocks don't suffer the same problems, as far as removing the stock goes, as does the Weatherby, so its not a problem with them.

You have actually given me some food for thought with your last post. I have a lanolin based product called Lanoguard 3000 that is supposedly the "bees knees" for just about anything and everything you wish to use it for.

Lanoguard 3000

I just might have to give the actions and metal parts in the stock of my rifles a liberal coating of it. Will save me from rust and also getting a "heat seeker" from Bushy and those that are violently opposed to "CENSORED" ! Hiding

Cheers, Vince

Gidday mate. I am unsure if this is an Aussie or Kiwi product...although we are both from pretty much the same neck of the woods.

Lanolin is a magnificent natural product, but for some reason it is not used as much as one would expect. Sheep don't complain about it and it seems to keep them fairly dry in the rain. Laughing Laughing
