Howdy. How many of you hunt from a tree stand. I have gotton very lucky with the property i hunt 110 acres that i can walk out my door and within 5 min be in a stand.There are two of us that hunt the farm. We build permanent stands. They have goretex sides, shingled roofs, wind flaps, swivle chairs with arm rests, a little cooler to keep the squirrels out of my snacks, camo army netting draped around to break up my out line. Ill tell ya i look forward to deer season our stands have everything exept heat ( and im working on it )

Hello, I too hunt from trees stands. I have 100 acres about 12 miles from my home in northern Maine. I have built 4 permanent tree stand that sound much like yours. I pre-built all of them in my basement on an "assembly line basis" so they are all identical except final placement hieght. They are 3 feet square with shooting railings on all sides, a roof, (no shingles), camo ripstop nylon all around, rifle stand, molded seats (non-swivel, but that is my next improvement to be made). I also hunt for one week in southern Maine with a buddy who also has 100 acres. He has seven permanent stands and 3 ground blinds spread over his lot and the adjoining 200 + acres. Let me know and I can send you a picture and also the actual plans I used to bulid mine (my own design)

I just posted a picture of one of my tree stands in my album (Blaine's Pictures") on this site. It's called Tree Stand 2. The photo was taken in the summer when the camo skirting had been removed for the season. I get better wear from my camo if I keep it out of our Maine winters. Wink

Howdy Blaine I run into a problem with the sun bleaching out my gore, so we started rapping a layer of camo burlap over the gore, that burlap lasts a while and its cheap. On some of our recent stands we are using treated plywood for the sides and rapping it with the burlap. My buddy wants to put plexi glass sliders in his. Aint nothing like bein spoiled in your tree stand is there Laughing

When I lived in Maryland I hunted from a tree stand but for different reasons. Where I hunted on Eastern Shore is heavily forested but flat. Being state owned anyone can hunt there. You've got young novice hunters, foreigners you name it. With a lot of hunters and flat land it can be out and out dangerous. I've built several stands over the years there, and carry my tree spikes with me. Rarely is anyone using my stands so I just screw the spikes back in, climb up and relax. I got a couple of nice deer there years ago, but haven't been back recently. I guess to me a tree stand is a little extra safety. Best wishes.

On a serious note, I dont see much tree stand use out here in the west. I can count the number of times I've even seen a true tree stand on 1 hand. I can see the use maybe on private ground but really, animals just arent that dense enough to justify plunking a stand down somewhere. I put a great many miles on vehicles / shoes each day hunting. While some animals out here pattern ok, I just dont see them in the same place enough to warrent sitting there ahead of them. I hunt very open areas where you can litterally see for miles. Its spot and stalk action.

Howdy. I guess im pretty lucky with the farm i hunt we have corn or soy bean on two sides, so we can figure there routes pretty early in the season and we have 8 stands built on the most common trails. And if there still out of range we will use climbers i prefer my built ones almost as cumfy as home. I guess out west would be a lot different i have never hunted out west but will one day!

Hi all,

I was just wondering about tree stand height that people prefer. I have all my permanent stands between 16 and 20 feet depending on the tree and the "lay of the land". I use cedar poles for my ladders that I cut right there on the woodlot, and finding straight/even ones that aren't too thick limits my stand height somewhat.

Howdy blaine. My stands are about the same varies a little due to location 16-20ft. Our ladders are built out of 2+4 one of my stands has 1/2 of a 40ft extension ladder (aluminum) its nice but when the beach nuts start dropping gets a little noisey (LOL)
