Yep,
Always carry a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk 45LC, loaded with 325 gr. LBTs and a case full of H110 powder.

I carry a hangun everywhere that it's legal to and that includes the woods. Why? #1, self defence, unfortunately there are a lot of hyper aggressive flatlanders that hunt my area and younever know for sure if there will be a dispute over a downed animal if they want it that bad they can have it, but you just can't tell if that's enough for some of the city boys, I've heard some real horror stories from people I trust about baseless conflict in the woods.
#2; Trying to finish off a wounded animal (God forbid but things do happen) would be a real pain with a long gun. I ain't a tree hugger but I hate to see any critter suffer when it doesn't have to.

That is a very smart idea mate. Always the opportunity for another shot later.

Ya don't have to be a tree hugger to be considerate mate. Any ethical hunter would feel the same way......and that would include every one of us in here.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't... I have carried .45 Colts, .357 Mags and .32 H&R Mags at different times. So far I haven't needed a handgun when rifle hunting but I think a little airweight "snubby" will be traveling with me this season.
On that subject though, in NC it is illegal to carry a handgun while bow hunting and also during turkey season (shotgun only).
