If you reload go with the 22-250.you can reload the 22-250 at 223 speeds that will be the same cost or you can load it to 220swift speeds[around 4100fps]when you want it. If you buy over the counter 223 are cheeper.

I prefer the 223 just for the cost of buying ammo. If you reload the 22-250 will definately out perform the 223. I love my 223 and it has connected on prairie dogs over 500yds...guess I'll stick with it.

I absolutely love .22-250's! Flexible rifles that love handloads. You can really make those bullets scream. It was my first rifle caliber and still my favorite. Very cheap to reload and shoot. 36grns Varget w/ 55grn Speer BT's is my bread and butter load.

223...for high volume shooting your barrel will definitely last longer than the two-fifty. the 223 is my choice for yotes and has never failed me.

I was in the same boat as you, trying to decide what gun to get .
my friends where I live tried to get me to buy a 22-250.
I ended up buying a bushmaster 223. I could not be happier.
its extreamly accurate, and the ammo is very cheap to buy over the counter.
even though you can buy the ammo for about the same price if you relaod, I will go buy my first round of ammo at the store, then reload what I shoot.
in texas, I killed my first deer with a 223 , from about 250 yards.
I can not speak bad about the 22-250, but the guys I know that have them , love-em.
my oppinion, both guns are very good. and do a good job for what they are for.
for me, a 223 is all around a good plinker, and varment gun. if it was legal , I know it would take down bigger game easily.
in texas, I know it was legal to hunt deer with a 223.

+1 for Swampfox
On the choice between the two, no argument prevails and no justification of one over the other adds to the decision, afterall, most varmint hunters will have one of each eventually. Buy the one that fits the current needs or is easiest to obtain. 22 centerfires rock, so don't stop with just two, either. From 22 Hornets to the King, the 220 Swift, 22 centerfires can be used from vermin to whitetail and mule deer.

Buy the 223! Cheaper, easyer on barrels and your pocket when buying cartridges or loading them, you can get a good heavy barreled 223 to stay on target after the shot and watch the bullet strike.
I also have a few 223 Bushmasters, one of which being the Varminter, they all shoot very well. The Varminter will consistantly shoot 1/2" or under @ 100yds.
