UH OH….it’s gone all quiet again. Maybe everyone is busily handloading for the upcoming hunting seasons…maybe I should do the same, although I been spending a bit of time on preparing fishing rods, servicing fishing reels and putting together rigs to hopefully get out and do some fishing.

Gone are the days when I used to go to the fish rather than entice them to come to me with yummy baits. I haven’t been spear fishing for longer than I can remember. I still have all the gear…wetsuit, weight belt, mask snorkel and flippers, hand spear, not sure what happened to my knife though, I think it was “borrowed”…all ready to go, but I’m a bit old now methinks.

Maybe I should hit the reloading bench and do up some loads.

Two week moose hunt coming up. All packed and ready to go north of the 50° parallel.

Never been to this area so it will be a lot of scouting and checking the lay of the land. Actually shooting a moose will be secondary on this trip.

Good luck! Moose meat is really good. My Shiras was huge bodied... I cant imagine one of those Alaska Yukon things hitting the ground.

Yes it is. Although I haven't gone in a while due to my kids being so young. I normally enjoy quite a bit of it a year from friends who go.

My favorite way to prepare it is like a red masala in the slow cooker.

But kids are not that young anymore. Took them turkey hunting this year, taught them to fire BB guns, deer season in the fall and next year might even take them with me for moose. They can't legally hunt until 12 and they pass the hunter education course but they can tag along and learn.

Great efforts on all fronts mate. You have to look after your knees as best you can mate. Without them being in good condition, you don’t go nowhere.

Good luck with your hunt mate. I wasn’t lucky enough to see any moose when in Canada back in 2018.

Saw no moose but was a good trip none the less. Bought a CZ 455 (in 22 WMR) on the way back. Funny enough never owned a 22 (I have an old one that needs some work and parts but I'd never rely on it). Borrowed my brother's Ruger 10/22 and ended up eating grouse for lunch and dinner and came back with a full cooler of food.

Sounds like you still had a good time mate. Your purchase of the CZ in .22 WMR is good. I believe the CZ, along with some Norinco, to be the best rifles accuracy wise of that calibre. From memory, the CZ 455 has interchangeable barrels, with one available in .17 HMR. This is a very accurate round, although ammo out here is fairly expensive, but worthwhile nonetheless.

The CZ 455 and 457 share the interchangeable barrels and magazines.

The Cooey 64 that needs a new bolt (well ejector and firing pin)and refinishing of it's stock might never get done at this rate. Shot it once to confirm the issues and 20 years later still have not repaired it. Hiding
