Just hollar if thats what you guys want to do... I know Bushy has alot of experience with the ole ThurdyThurdy and can give lots of great advice.

Yes but his advice may be 1 sided. I mean nobody in the world loves or gives as much faith into the old thutty thutty as Bushy. A 35 Rem would be much superior. We all know a 22lr will shoot as far as a thutty thutty and bullet placement being just that, may well do the same job. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

GGGRRRRRRR Mad May the Winchester God do terrible things to your nether regions !!!!!

There is little doubt that the two threads share a common link so lets keep it going.

Oh yeah 1895ss old mate, re-read Flint's article and then do a comparison on the terminal results of a 34gr .22 cal lead bullet and a 150gn .30 cal jacketed out of the venerable Winchester 30.30....woohoo, my money's on the thutty-thutty!!
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Over to you Oh Great and Salubrious One....Bushy of course. Very Happy

Now where can I get those bullets that Hornady is using in their Leverevolution loads so I can get going on my Marlins in 45 LC & 45-70?

george, I would say that when Hornady gets caught up with the production of loaded (factory) ammo the bullets will be available to the reloader.

Vince, does the truth hurt................. ?????? Well .......... Ok I stretched it just little a bit......... Smile Very Happy

viking viking ? ?
Don't know what happen to the message I wrote, here goes again...

I chose the 45-70 over 30 cals because I thought it would buck the brush better. Viking I experimented with it by setting up a 24 inch target in veavy brush at 60 yards, still able to sight it in. I used a 180 grn pointed soft point 30-06, 2 of 5 missed, 3 hit the target but appeared to have tumbled & weren't grouped. All 5 of the 300 grn flat point 45-70 rounds hit the target and grouped under 6 inches. Do you think a 30-30 would do better? Confused I know my approach wasn't scientific, but, I got what I expected.
Keep it coming...

I doubt it very much. The 30-30 bullet would be much lighter as well.

Hummm...Interesting test, George. I have never thought to try that with my "Thutty-Thutty". Though I have taken Blacktails at 50 yards and less through heavy brush with no noticable problems. Unlike Vince I use 170 grain flat nose (Speer). I must admit that most of the deer taken in this manor were in my younger years when I was using Remington 170 grain Cor-lokts. To this day if I have to use factory ammunition I will always buy Remington Core-Lokt. They have been with us a long time and they are still here. The wheel ain't broke.

G'Day sniper. Sorta sounds like it would make a good toast don't it. Laughing Laughing

However, I believe it was "aimed" at my old mate 1895ss to make him duck for cover whilst protecting his "family tackle" lest the Winchester God get a hold of 'em. Very Happy Very Happy

Cool Thank You to all that read the article, it appears that I got my main point across that SD for any given Caliber and equal weight is the same but the Treminal performance of each bullet is the MOST IMPORTANT item to consider. I really wish that Barnes made their TSX in a 130 - 140 grain weight in .308. This would be one heck of a bullet for most 30 caliber firearms, ideal legnth for the standard twist and more penetration than most circumstances need and less meat damage. Cool Cool

Again, Thanks for taking the time! Bob K.

Hi Flint.

Have you ever considered contacting the Barnes Bullet manufacturer and suggesting to them producing the 130-140 grain TSX?

Outline your research and conclusions, citing facts and results of any testing. This should give you credibility and give them reason to listen to your suggestion in a more positive light.

You never know mate, they just might do it for you. You might even get some sort of recognition for it.

Thanks for starting this one mate.....it has been a most interesting topic. I have learnt from the "back and forth" between members. Just goes to show....doesn't matter how old you are or how long you have been playing, there is always something new to learn about your sport.

Cheers, Vince

Flint,
Great paper, very relevent and I will be reading it over again to make sure that I did not miss anything. I would be interested in hearing more about the final choice of bullets. More about what your thoughts were in picking them, besides what you wrote.
