Just another ploy to go after the AR platforms and AR pistols. They like to make up the rules as they go.

The only thing I haven't seen bandied around yet is that dreaded terrible murderous tern "assault rifle". I think it is a given that people in general now do not see the AR platform as necessarily an assault rifle, just another type of rifle.

Just so long as they continue producing hunting projectiles I'll be happy.

The agency is now crying “uncle,” in the face of thousands upon thousands of negative comments from gun owners all around the country -- including more than 200 congressmen.

The agency said today:

Although ATF endeavored to create a proposal that reflected a good faith interpretation of the law and balanced the interests of law enforcement, industry, and sportsmen, the vast majority of the comments received to date are critical of the framework, and include issues that deserve further study.

A “good faith interpretation”? Well, that’s laughable. But realize the agency says the issue deserves “further study.”

So now the question becomes: Is this a genuine retreat, or just a “tactical retreat,” as we saw with Operation Choke Point? In that case, the federal government removed gun dealers from its “risky business list,” but continue to persecute them under that program on a case-by-case basis.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said 80,000 comments rolled in, many against the proposal to ban the 5.66 M855 "green tip" ammo. The NRA and the other groups still plan to flood ATF mailboxes with opposition letters just to make sure they go through with their withdrawal.

Does anyone realize they did this last year with the 7N6 5.45×39mm (AK74) ???

They probably figured the M855 could be banned just as easy without being challenged on it's so called "armor piercing" capabilities.

write your congress critters and let them know that the military already has armor piercing bullets that are not available to the public. They (the military) already define what an armor piercing bullet is - congress, on the other hand has no clue what an armor piercing bullet is.

The SS109 is a 62gr FMJ BT MER 800m and is the standard 5.56mm NATO round. Its US equivalent is the M855 55gr FJM Flat base MER 480m. In Hohenfels Germany we did range qualification and the Btln Cmdr was pissed at the qualification results and it was due to the supply or range officer or whomever who had issued mixed up US and NATO ammo and long story short we had to re-qualify all over again and we never did see that major again. Laughing

according to the NRA and several other news agencies the ban will not be taking effect.

After all the comments and the NRA lobbying the ATFE has decided that the M855 round is not the "cop killer" bullet that they were led to believe it was and that it is used primarily in recreational shooting.

Duh! If they had spent five minutes on the web they would have known that!

My understanding is that the Democrats have already announced a new plan to ban 5.56/.223 ammo. Those who seek to disarm the law abiding will never give up. They don't give a damn what the PEOPLE think.

Unfortunately, the ANTIs have an agenda and they "own" parts of the Govt, so they will continue to put pressure on those Senators that they contributed to in order to further their agenda.

I know what the answer is, but it is not something that needs be aired publicly.
