Estate tax?????
is that like the old death tax??? around here the large stations got broken up as families had to pay death tax for their menfolk who went overseas and died FOR THEIR COUNTRY???? Rather ironic that their OWN country/farm had to be sold for the privilege Sad Sad

Yep, they used to have a similar thing over here in Australia...Death Duties they were called from memory. When you died, the Govt would take a cut of your Estate (well, the Politicians had to pay for their elaborate and extravagant lifestyles somehow). People thought they could beat the ripoff by giving away to all family members their cut of the Estate before they died, that way beating the Death Duty...FAIL...the Govt had a Gift Tax in place and the cut they would take was even higher.

Politicians and tax officials (well at least those who research and implement ways of increasing taxes)...I sometimes think there should be an open season on them.

Tremblay, You might want to research this a little !!!

I do believe it to mostly be true but misleading. I believe it was done under a Continuing Resolution or the Fiscal Cliff deal that the Republicans were apart of.

None the the less, once again our so called leaders prove their inability to actually fix the issues.

Articles are easy to find on the subject because they were just published a few days ago. This page has updated information for taxes. People that got subsidies for Obama-care by estimating their income will have some interesting new paperwork to navigate including for some, a monthly schedule of payments. Yes we have an estate tax and we have a gift tax. 14 states cut taxes in 2014, compared to 18 states the previous year. The states were: Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.

Wisconsin began the 2014 legislative session with a budget surplus of $911 million. Rather than increase spending, Wisconsin returned $800 million—86 percent of the total—to its residents. Since Republican Governor Scott Walker took office in 2012, the state has reduced its tax burden by $2 billion.

Indiana is looking to build upon its recent, successful tax reforms. The state, under the leadership of Republican Governor Mike Pence, cut its personal income tax in 2013, and passed substantial corporate tax reforms this past year.

So let's all move to states with lower taxes and screw the budgets of states with higher taxes. Tax reformed state governments are realizing a boost in economic growth because of reform, and I bet when this current admin. gets on the ball with it (what?...never), no they want to close the income gap remember?....the big corporate giants keepin all the money to themselves, sort of thing, the overseers of the minions (that keep us employed)...I'm so sick of this tripe. It'll change, I hope.

Well you brought up a good point, we need to keep abreast of what's happening. I for one, wouldn't have even thought of it bein much of an issue, but tax time is approaching and it's time to gear up after spending at Christmas and realizing our credit card debts and so on. I've been buying stuff like crazy lately with sales so good I just can't pass up a good deal. Went to Cabela's and bought a Lee Classic Turret press because someone at work gave me a gift card, and then I got an employee discount (a through-the-mail promotion) and after buying the press they handed me a $20 certificate to come back and buy more!

Of course there's lots of other things to go with the press that you just have to have and on and on and on it goes. I got a DVD or two as gifts and since I bought my flat screen the player went south so I had to get another one of those to play the DVDs. Since I was hooking that up (with very little help I might add) I also decided it was time my surround sound system got hooked up and that required some more wire connections I didn't have. It's so nice to get them all working together too.

did-ja-missme?

The problem is regardless how they present it to you, the government is a business that will have to be able to pay for their expenditures and infrastructures.
There is no winning in this.
You may seem to pay less tax on one thing, and then have to pay for more tax on another.
Governments are big enough to employ army of accountant that creatively shaft you by hook or by crook.

Well I'm no electric genius, I took the booklets from my DVD player, television and surround sound to the store where I bought the player and they figured it out for me. You need this, this and this, pull out the wallet, went home and plugged it in. So much easier than figuring it out myself. It was a problem of incompatibility of connectors (as far as I could tell) and it didn't look like I could even wire them together, but it works great. Just have to mute the volume on the TV to use the surround sound. I love it, I've had that thing for years without using it.

Having a week off from work really helps too.

I have a closet of a house but the sound system is wonderful. We have a new TV channel now that's called GRIT and it only shows old movies with "grit" the old army movies and great westerns a real shoot-em-up oasis. Neighbors? they don't even know I'm here. Well one or two know I'm here but we're good buddies. Now I can settle in and get lazy around the TV like Bushy does after too many pots of java. Do you have blackberries in Missoura? I picked a gallon of them put them in a large jar and covered them with brandy, let sit a few months and it's a great addition to ice cream or coffee or shot glass. Well you have to add a little sugar too or it tastes like it-don't-have-no-sugar. My boss is famous for making berry pies without enough sugar. It's like someone gives you a glass of very expensive wine and you can't even drink it because it's so nasty tasting and they keep filling your glass because you're too polite to say cut it out then you wake up the next morning and find your underware in the fridge draped over the gallon of milk that you were going to use on your cereal but you decide to eat eggs and bacon instead and the bacon doesn't have any salt on it and you find out it's not bacon anyway it's some slag of dried up chicken gravy that spilled and evaporated into a bacon-like tasty morsel that doesn't exactly fry like bacon but goes good with the eggs anyway.

That's what it's like.....I swear

Mulberry pies where my favorite, until I soaked them one day.
I had no idea that I had been eating so many grubs.
