Well as long as I had my 45-70 in my hands I would feel safe Shocked ............... I think! One never knows how you would re-act until confronted in that way. You make a mistake and you're dead. Yep me and my 45-70 would have been OK. Very Happy

Mark is Known for pushing the Limit. He is one of the few that use a .600
and a.700 nitro double. He had his .700 up for sale a while back for over a
$100,000 . Why take this risk.

No room for error there. Saw part of a show the other day doing a management elephant hunt. Found a good size male put out from the herd. Put a stalk on it to what looked like 100yds crouched behind brush. PH turns to say something and the elephant charges flat out. Both guys jump up, one puts a bullet just left then the other just right of the brain. Bull goes down with less than 1/2 the distance remaining. They run to the side and make sure the job is finished. Never thought much about hunting elephants but that was a rush just watching it. Hum ---Might like to do it after all if it were a management hunt.

Well, at a few $$$ per round i'd say 100K is a steal Shocked

When i shot a 600NE it was about $50 (give or take 10-30 bucks) per round, so i dont really know what those nor the 700NE go for now, but i do know it's up there! Shocked

I shot a 460 Weatherby, that was enough for me, I can imagine the 600 & 700 NE are very rough.
I've been told the 460 Weatherby kicks harder that the 50BMG, will find out soon enough.

H&H sells the 600 NE 900 grain bullets for $216 a five pack ( $43 and change per round ) ..
Actually the 600 to me isnt all that bad .. The 460 doesnt come back as hard as the 378 ..
I didnt look at the clip but if Mark is Mark Sullivan , well .. No Comment ..

Yeah...$43/round for the 900's is pretty good now... they used to be more. Shocked

Although, i shot in a variation of 900 grains and a 1150 grain......Which was sincerely brutal! Shocked

Dimitri reloading is a good option , it's true .. You wanna gag ?? Price the dies for these puppies ..
My 470 NE dies cost almost $200 twenty years ago .. The 500 variants and the 577 variants and the 600 are around $400-$500 per set ..
Also price the brass , some brass is $10 or more each piece , and you will get maybe five reloads from each one .. But when you consider what ammo costs , the dies are cheep if you want to shoot a lot ..
Only issue reloading , is the doubles are regulated with a specific load , and it can be fun to regulate , even when you know the powder charge and bullets used ..

Oh need Jack didnt know all that. Shocked

But then agian if you can afford a double rifle the dies probrobly arnt that much more when your spending 6 figures on the gun (I checked some prices out since my post) Shocked

Thouse rifles cost a hell of alot. Shocked If I went to Africa and had a good buget for a big bore I might consider machining myself a rifle to handle these: Cool

I got to ask when you say Doubles are regulated that means that they are on angles so at lets say 100 yards they both hit the same point of aim right ?? Confused

Regulating is , yes putting both barrels within a REASONABLE distance from each other ..
If you have one built , you can specify what load and distance you want it regulated at .. I had two 470 NE's ( one Kreighoff and one Merkel ) , they were regulated to 3" at 55 yards .. In other words , draw a 3" circle , fire one shot from each barrel at the center of the circle , and both will fall somewhere inside the circle .. Usually the right barrel is regulated to point of aim and the left is within 3" of the right ..
However before you guffaw at this accuracy , remember this , these are close in weapons , they arent meant to be used beyond 100 yards or so ..
And the critters they are intended to be used on , dont need MOA accuracy , but bullet placement still must be precise ..
Most second shots are taken at the distance of " there is no way to miss at this range " ..
Most of the JDJ conversions are for his SSK hand cannons , a variant of the Contender , and dont have the power of the real deal , tho they are potent ..
