Naw man I am sitting at home, way to windy today. Besides I spent so many hours volunteering this week that I don't have any homework done.

wwwwwwaa wwwww way to windy?????????
that really is a foreign concept for a water fowler???????
we over here in Godzone just love windy days as the birds wont sit on big bodies of water or they go shades of green and start feeding the fish!!! they move around alot more so we get more chances to bag them.
I recall sitting in a maimai at wainono with my young fella and the big black dog both perched up on the bench seat as the water was really high. the wind was howling at our backs and I called 4 mallards upwind from a long way out. they seemed to take forever to battle the way upwind, meanwhile we are sitting there watching them and feeling very exposed as they were looking right at us for ages before they were close enough to dump 2 of them. I didnt need to open the door for the dog Very Happy at the first shot he lept clean over the side of the maimai and out after them. if the wind was any stronger he would have flown too Very Happy just aswell he had long legs cause he had a real battle getting back upwind with the secound bird.

This is just early goose season. The best place I have to find them is a bigger body of water that has big floating bog islands. There have been a few times that one of the bogs ran over my decoys, or plugged the channels I use to get in and out of the lake.

ok thats a fair enough excuse to stay home and mow the lawns I suppose!!!!
sitting on the leeward shoreline could be a heck of alot of fun all the same.

Went to a new spot tonight with a friend of mine. Only saw one goose, I could hear it but it came low over my back. By the time it came over me it was to late, I must have looked like a ballerina twisting around looking for that damn goose. However I don't think I have ever seen that many ducks in Minnesota. It was awesome! I had ducks constantly in the decoys, over the decoys, over the boat and looking at the decoys. Wow I am as giddy as school girl. Come on duck season!!!!!

That was my favorite maneuver during Navy Blue Angel Flight Demonstrations when 2 "birds" came in low from behind the crowd .....

The duck opener finally got here! I went to a new place and OMG, I have never seen so many ducks in Minnesota. It was very windy so getting a good lead was pretty tough. They were cruising!!! The lake was so weedy that when some of the ducks hit the water they were swallowed whole. The shoulder is a bit tender after a box and a half in one morning. I felt like we were in the big leagues after seeing all the big boats with swamp motors. There were already over a dozen rigs there at 4:30 am, I felt like we were late. My son decided we had to stop for a soda on the way and as it happened the spot we were headed for was taken by the boat in front of us. Oh well we found another spot. Everyone was spread out really well and behaved, never once did BB's come even close. Other then all the misses it was a perfect opener. I can't wait for next weekend!!!!

We won't talk about the shot to kill ratio its kind of a sore subject. I am headed back to shotgunning school. I am not as nimble as I used to be and I think I was not following through the shot.
