Boy or boy, Very Happy yesterday I took my ruger 17 hmr to the woods and spent a couple hours shooting squirrels, and got five of them.
I brought them in the house and boiled the meat off the bone and made squirrel and dumplings man was that good. I had been craving that for a long time, I have decided that is my favorite way to eat them, so tender. We usually fry them but they are tuff that way especially the big, or old ones, and its a whole lot better than that old possum pie Very Happy
Here is the squirrel and dumpling recipe just in case some of you get some squirrels and want to try it:

season squirrel with salt, pepper, garlic, and diced onions and pressure cook until meat falls off (we just put in a pot and boil it till it gets real tender and comes off bone easily).
Remove meat from bone and save the broth. Make dumplings (actually egg noodles). By using:

1 egg
1/2 cup of cooled broth
1 teaspoon of salt

Mix ingredients with enough flour to make firm dough. Turn out dough on a board and need in flour until dough is stiff. Then roll out thin and leave for a while and let dry a little if it need to. slice into a noodle or diamond shape and drop into boiling broth. Additional water may be added to broth to handle the dumplings when all the dumplings have been added. Put squirrel meat in broth and simmer for 15 to 20 min.

I promise its good.

Yummy sounds good.

Now to only find a place to hunt Squirrel's now since I only see chimpmunks in most areas I go hunting. Confused

For the past week I have been squirrel hunting daily and squirrel eating daily. My favorite way to eat squirrels is similar to what you described. I cook them in a crockpot all day until meat falls off the bones. Then I boil water and cook egg noodles while I am picking and separating bones from meat.I end up with a pile of boneless (well almost,I usually miss a rib or two) meat in my bowl.I then dump the hot egg noodles over meat and throw in half a stick of butter which quickly melts into noodles and meat. Then I stir it up and chow down. Eating doesnt get much better than that, simply delicious!!

We got squirrel's sorta. I mainly go out to the northern part of Ontario mainly chipmunks. Smile

Southern Ontario has squirrels but I dont go out in the bush here much. I mainly see them in towns and cities. Cant hunt there and wouldnt want to eat them. Razz

Delboy.....only thing I have ever known as moggies are domestic cats. Got no interest in chowin' down on them buggers.

Farrier, that recipe sounds absolutely magnificent. Shame we don't have squirrels in Australia.

Cheers, Vince

Hi Vince

If you were still a colony then we would bring squirrels to you - we did it with foxes! Thinking about it we did it with rabbits, camels, hedgehogs...

Honestly, sometimes i've got no sympathy with some people.

This is where I would post one of those smiley emoctions which means "only kidding" but they are not on my screen. you'll just have to take it as a joke.

Try this on for size:
Boil your squirrel off the bone, take your meat and put Drakes mix deep fry batter in a bowl, mix according to the directions. Mix in about 4 tbls Mrs Dash to your Drakes mix, dry the meat, dip it into you Drakes/Mrs Dash and deep fry until crispy crust. Very Happy
Works great on rabbit as well. Very Happy Very Happy
Not good for you! But darn good just the same....
