Just got done building my newest flintlock. It has a 35" swamped .54 Colerain barrel, Chambers deluxe large Siler lock, White Lightnin vent liner, curly maple Haines profile fullstock, and iron furniture. Built it for a lightweight (compared to my other .54 Flintlock) hunting rifle with pre-revolutionary war style.

Thanks guys, I am very happy with how it turned out. This was the second longrifle I built, I built a .40 flintlock about 5 years ago. This one turned out better, I guess I learned a few things. The next one should be even better.
Crackshot, I did not keep an exact record, but I imagine I have about 80-100 hours in building this rifle. Time was probably evenly split between metal and wood work. I bought the stock from a muzzleloader shop in PA preshaped with barrel channel and ramrod channel drilled. I inlet the lock, trigger, patchbox, buttplate, toeplate, tang, and ramrod thimbles into the stock. I ordered the rest of the parts from Track of the Wolf. Most of the work to the metal was removing casting sprues and filing and polishing. The barrel required the most work of the metal parts. I shortened it from 38" to 35", and filed the machining marks from the flats. I then drilled and tapped for the vent liner and cut the dovetails for sights with a file. The lock and trigger plate needed to be drilled and tapped for the lock and tang bolts respectively.
I have made a couple stocks from scratch, but not muzzleloader stocks. I do not have the specialized equipment needed to drill the ramrod channel.

That is beautiful work.
I should send you my percussion cap rifle to finish.
My Dad started to, but then got sidetracked.
It is original, and he cut and reversed the barrel.
The rest was never touched.
I can do the stock work, but I wish that I had your metal working talent to finish it.
Again, beautiful work all around on your fine gun.
Eric
