I was looking for a deer attractant under-the-open-sky.com...ttractant/ mix at the store and I see that they are very expensive. Does anyone have a homemade recipe where I can buy the ingredients and make it myself.
Thanks a lot.

Roll in doe piss during the rut. Of course you may find it hard to bottle as does can run pretty damn fast. Razz

Unfortunately if you want attractants you are pretty much restricted to buying commercially made concoctions. Unless, you take Bushy’s advice and chase down that doe. I don’t know if feeders are legal where you hunt, but maybe that is an option...set up a feeder to try and bring them in.

I have many years ago...dropped my woolen swannie coat in the deer yards on deer farm and gave it a good rub around in the scent...... shot a lovely stag while wearing it 2 days later...did it help??? begiggered if I know, but it made ME feel better
wearing camo face paint does same to the mind set.
if the deer can smell the doe pee/scent you are wearing it can smell you, your armpits and arsehole.....putting scent on gaiters can help to mask your trail....Ive seen older guys tie pizzle off stags around lower legs for this effect.

Freshly popped popcorn in your pockets and rubbed into your clothes?
This made me remember a youtube video of a guy who sprayed doe scent all over his hunting clothes and had to use hand to hand against a young buck to keep from being molested. Basically all I have ever used is unscented soap in the laundry and the shower before a hunt. Deer see the blue green spectrum and rely on movement to identify predators. The stalk and stop technique has always worked for me. (I never have been able to move quietly through any terrain so the deer probably think I am a lumbering bear going fishing)

and we here in Kiwiland some of us wear bright blue camo.......because MOST humans will see it....by the time a deer sees it my bolt should be down and trigger pressure being taken up.

We have to wear day-glo orange or hot pink camo.

I found out this year that pronghorn can see orange. I had an orange hat on. I popped just my head above a ridge to spy on a herd 300 yards away and they ran the instant I could see them. I wasn't sky-lined because there was a larger ridge behind me. Lucky for me the buck stopped to look back. When I checked him into the station, I asked the WY state biologist. He replied that he believed they could see orange.

levi's are bad on two counts:
1. deer can see the blue
and
2. they are cotton and they fluoresce in UV

We get away with jeans because we are usually crouched with our lower body hidden.

I wear the "approved" orange camo vest over wool and real tree bark hunting pants. Keep in mind that their eyes are most sensitive to blue AND movement. Even close deer can look and not see you as a threat if you are crouched and look a bit like the surrounding brush.
They can smell you if the wind is being uncooperative. Being down wind and with the light in their eyes is always best.

The way I lumber through the brush I just have to hope they think I am a bear or a big squirrel or that the deer is suicidal an wants to die to feed me. I think sometimes they feel sorry for me. As long as it works I'm OK with it. Smile
