Welcome crazyaboutcoues!

So I gotta ask, I've heard alot about coues hunting... is it really as tough as people make it sound? I've heard some amazingly difficult storys about it but dont know if they are just that hard to hunt, or if its just a lack of experience of the hunters to be in the right place at the right time?

Ditto to crazyaboutcoues!

DallanC: for seven years I have waited patiently to get drawn for the late Coues hunt, December 16th through 31. This year I got tag #45 out of 50 available. Last year there were nearly a thousand applications for my hunt unit. 2nd choice was always the early hunt and I usually got drawn.

The areas we hunt (The Chiracahuas, SE AZ) is mostly verticle and our favorite portion has no roads and only a few trails. It is rocky and prickly. I've got gouges in stocks and scopes to attest to type of terraine. I've scored on a few bucks in the 90 point range but have been hunting hard for something that will go book without having to go to Sonora. We spent the 14th and 15th scouting with no luck. We hunted the 16th through 20th and saw a few small Coues (reduntant). I'm headed back on the 29th through the 31st.

I've hunted mulies, elk, antelope, black and brown bear, moose and desert bighorn, all with exceptional animals killed in each catagory but those Coues deer bucks are the most challenging of all for me. I've spent hours glassing the mountains with some great binos and I've seen two that were in the 120+ catagory but could never get to where they were.

I love it.

Thanks for the Welcome Cool

Dallan...I started archery hunting, in general, 18 years ago. Taken my share of Mule deer and Elk. I started archery hunting Coues deer exclusively four years ago. I've taken one in four years Shocked . I've only shot one time in four years. Shocked And it's not because I haven't seen bucks, it's because getting a shot at one of these little buggers is not easy.

So to answer your question, yeah it's tough Very Happy At least with a bow.

Happy New Year Everyone
